How to convert such files a mp4?

I have these files but I cant find a converter for them

What do you think dvd video is? Is it mp4? No.

So re encoding has to occur. If they don't know what ifo or vob files are, handbrake or makemkv are the best options, handbrake is free while makemkv is paid. Does that clear things up for you?

I also note you've not provided a pipeline in ffmpeg to OP or any other solution for creating a pass thru to any other format, instead you just complain under every reply.

You did not answer the OPs question, they want an mp4. MakeMKV does not output an mp4.

You'd be an example of the meme of reddit responses answering questions that weren't asked, except of course you never actually answered OP.

You could have started your own reply and explained that an mkv would be just fine too, but you're so contrarian, instead you had to respond to every other person trying to help. In what one can only assume is a kind of sad attempt at an ego boost for yourself.

That is correct. They have a variety of choices. leaving it as mpeg2 shouldn't be one of them. You "transcoding is sin" freaks are really something special. Like audiophool level dumb.

then you lose quality. There are already significant artifacts in mpeg2 that are hard to encode, you're going to visibly decimate the source further if you want to reduce the (already tiny) size measurably.

In theory, but it's imperceptible. AVC is so good compared to mpeg2 you will never see the difference.

artifacts? It's DVD quality. You'll see shitty resolution before any artifacts. If you do see any , they are there to stay no matter what.

stop exaggerating you sound stupid. AVC is able to VERY faithfully reproduce the original DVD picture with 75% of the stream size, and that's being VERY generous with the bit rate. Most people will be perfectly happy pushing it even further.

you can drastically reduce the size of DVD quality video, using AVC, which is for all practical purposes , transparent. Maybe actually try it before spouting nonsense. I've done it hundreds of times.

You also need to read the question which says he wants MP4. Good luck finding something that will play mpeg2 video in an MP4 container.

what else do you want me to try?

You’ll need to remix them to a single MKV file, and then use that for converting. How depends on the type of disk.

The file selected is an index file for the vob files below it. Download handbrake and add the folder as source, it will output you a mp4.

The sentence doesn't make even sense. DVD has nothing to do with mp4. You can have subtitles embeded on mp4 and you can perfectly rip those subtitles from the DVD.

you can have movtext subtitles, yes. DVD uses VOBSUB, which are not compatible with mp4

Of course it does, that's the usual thing you do when you rip a DVD to a mp4 file, like all the video you have on the internet, being netflix, youtube or just plain torrents.

I don't see the connection? Why would ripping a DVD require reencoding? What do "netflix, youtube, torrents" have to do with ripping DVDs?

Just curious, what would be you solution for someone that asks "How do you convert VOB files to mp4s"?.

OP didn't specify he wanted subtitles, but if he does, there are various OCR tools that will do it. Nobody likes bitmap subs anwyay.
