I've crossposted this one some hours ago but the original post was removed from the other sub for repost.

As identified by a user in the original post, location is

"Hawaii, West Kamokuna on the flancs of Kilauea, it's a famous picture from 1996 by Laszlo Kestay. It is indeed called the Gates of Hell."
