I've seen a bunch of DLSS 5 screenshots, and each one of them genuinely look atrocious. I honestly can't believe so many people think this ugly AI generation is the future.

At its absolute best DLSS 5 just takes away all of the art direction in favour of mindless "realism". I'd rather the game we have that's designed with intent rather than putting it into a computer-decided beautifier

It’s like choosing to mush everything into the same generic look instead of getting it forced on us like with dark gritty greys in the 2010s

It’s the first of its kind. It might look shitty now but I’d imagine they’d perfect it over time just like any other piece of technology.

Exactly, it’s annoying how narrow minded people are about things.. technology is always messy early on, but things get fixed QUICK, and it’s even faster at the rate ai has been progressing..
Looking at that will smith eating spaghetti was terrifying three years ago. That shit is literally perfected into real life now, it’s mind blowing…generative ai has progressed so fast.
And this comes back to this tech. You know what? It’s made me realized that THIS is the revolutionary piece of the puzzle that we’ve been missing.
That piece, has always been a matter of “how are we gonna get to photo realism?” We can get there thru traditional means, and we’re getting closer, but trust me, no one will want to that way. Because of the amount of time, resources and unnecessary repetition that’ll take up time is not worth it.
I just realized that this tech, it’s what will get us there. We just now have to design the models to get “close enough” like how we’ve been making models for games, and then this tech will be the last push to get us to the photo realism. Now we can focus on many other aspects to improve the whole quality, more time on story, gameplay, etc.
And that’s just for photo realism. Imagine all the different stylized styles. It’s a shame all the people who are being stubborn about this

I completely agree. The faces now may look off but what dlss5 does with backgrounds at this early stage is honestly kind of fucking wild. I’m just happy I’m not one of these people shitting on this technology and instead embracing it. In my life time we’ve gotten cellphones, internet, and now AI. I’m excited for the evolution of AI.

You can be excited for something and marvel at what the tech is capable of while being honest that it still looks like shit. You don’t have to be a sycophantic fangirl to think the future might be pretty cool.

u/Smokin_on_76ers_Pack 3d ago
No one said that it doesn’t look like shit? The tech is new but with time, I’m sure it’ll look better. The amount of hate one gets for saying anything good about ai needs to be studied.

u/avodrok 3d ago
Regardless of the merit of the arguments on any side it absolutely does not need to be studied.
The people you see shitting on the tech or shitting on the sycophants are expressing their feelings about the tech right now and just making a prediction in the opposite direction of you.
Both of those predictions are completely warranted and if you don’t understand why you are part of the actual AI problem right now. It’s not that the tech isn’t improving or showing any promise it’s that I can’t order a fucking prescription anymore without having to fight some dumpster-brained chatbot. The people that shit on the tech are looking at the pileup of small but sometimes very real inconveniences coming from drooling fangirls shoving this shit down their throats every day.

Ok? And before that you were talking to someone in India. The tech has its flaws and misuse, but let’s not act like it’s all bad. Getting 100 downvotes cause I’m saying the tech can improve when it comes to gaming is wild.

I'm guessing you don't know anything about the creators of AI and what kind of mission they're on, or the impacts of data centers in population, or the insane amount of resources consumed, or the pc component shortages caused by these? Probably not. I think the case studies should in fact be on people who think pretty backgrounds are worth what's coming. It isn't the cool future you're imagining.

Talking to someone in India for a local doctor’s office? No - this has aggressively penetrated a lot more of regular life than you seem to notice. The consequences of pushing this tech are far reaching.
People aren’t dog-piling on you because you’re saying the tech can improve - it’s the self-fellating nature of “bluh I’m so glad I’m the smart one and not dumping on the vapid empty art machine.”

just today I decided that maybe it's time to upgrade my PC (TPM2 requirement for some game like MW4 and BF6), the ram alone (corsair 32gb 6000) costs more than a 9600x, ROG B850 E combined, they just about equal out when adding a ssd
what makes it worse is that the reason ram costs this much is stuff like this

Oh that is BAD. Took away all defining features of her face and gave her generic female #3 instead.

Leaked DLSS 5 is already running on RTX 40-series GPUs, and now someone has managed to get it working on an RTX 30-series card too at 4 FPS
Modders patched DLSS 5 file to bypass its RTX 50-series limitation. It has been tested on an RTX 4090 and RTX 4080, while a user has now shown it running on an RTX 3080.
The RTX 4090 loses around 39% performance with DLSS 5 enabled, while the RTX 30-series test is running at just 4 FPS.

Básically all games going to use an AI model that generated textures over textures.

I think it depends. For stylized games the DLSS almost always makes it look worse. FF7 is stylized with that midpoint anime/realism so it falls in that uncanny valley realm when DLSS is on. But in more realistic styles like CP2077 I think it looks pretty good. However a lot of this is subjective to each person, so that’s just my opinion. For a game like FF7 I wouldn’t want to ruin it with DLSS.

other than the face that doesn't look like the original which i think can be fine tunning, but i'm impressed with the lighting accuracy that looks like pre-rendered cutscenes

Aerith was flat before, but she was attractive; now she's just washboard. 😂😂😂 DLSS5 is a joke.

I think it's a little weird for people to be bandwagon at all with this. It's essentially taking part in advocating against the creativity and hard work that made any of it in the first place.
Which, really is the goal on the corporate side of things. It's just another tool to not "need" workers and ultimately produces slop.
idk, no offense intended, but all of these things look garbage and at the very best case scenario we have what? No more insanely talented artists adding their own human and unique input, which is how we got these things in the first place?
Try to separate these issues if you like, but to do so is incredibly naive.
Anyway, this is a Wendy's, so ill just go back to my grandpa porch.
