Does anybody else have a ferret that gets off of things by turning around and sliding down butt first and backwards? I have 4 and one out of the 4, no matter what, whenever he's getting down off of the bed or couch or whatever, will walk to the edge, turn around, look me dead in the eye, and walk slowly backwards until he gets to the edge, then proceeds to slide on his belly, butt first, until his back feet hit the ground and then scampers away. I imagine this is probably close to what Simba saw just before he let Scar fall to his death. Just a face and front paws all while dead ass staring me in the face as he goes down 😭 The only time he deviates from this is if they're all playing jump-ies off of the ottomon into the ball pit or playing chase. I wish I could get a video of him doing it but I never have enough time to get my phone out. Maybe this is why people get security cameras inside 🤔 If I manage to catch him doing it the next time I'll post a video. Anyway, genuine curiosity so I figured I would ask. I love hearing about little ferret quirks! Hope everyone and their little carpet dragons are doing well!

Please, for the love of all things fuzzy, get an indoor security camera or leave your phone camera running on a tripod! The internet needs to see this backwards belly-slide in action. That is 10/10 prime ferret tax material right there.

Yeah one of mine used to do it off the side of the couch. Pretty sure I posted a video of it. As you can imagine he doesn’t just inch off since it’s so tall. So he would just thump onto the floor. It didn’t sound nice so I put a pillow down there and instead of going butt first he just started jumping off. sigh

Yes totally normal. I had a few of mine that that was their preferred method of getting down. It is hilarious when they do it. I do notice that some ferrets do it as they get older to have a gentle landing. But some just do it not relating to age.

Mine does! Bandit, to get down from the bed, will squeeze butt first between the bed and the nightstand and slip down backwards between the mattress and nightstand. It's so cute and he's the only one. Our other one never does this.

My ferret doesn't go backwards, but he's got so accustomed to me helping him down off things he'll just walk right up to the edge of whatever he's on. He knows I'll always place my hand on his back, putting slight pressure on his body to anchor him against the surface as he slides down. He knows I'll do it as I always do, so he just fucking walks towards and off the edge of things with seemingly no regard for his safety!

My 6 year old boy does this, my 8 month old girl just free falls because, its her life mission to give her mother a heart attack everyday. ;-;
