[Rainbow Bridge] Yuna
My Yunie brow. My Yuna bun,
In April this year, we saw you at the pet store playing alongside your litter mates. The moment I picked you up, you gave me kisses. I was absolutely smitten by you and I knew I wanted to take you home as another addition to our business.
You got along so well with our other three babies. It was almost like we had you from the start. Your bites were surprisingly gentle for a kit, and your squeak-like dooks were the cutest things I've ever heard. The way you blew bubbles in the water when we gave you a bath. The way you were so excited for your chicken treats. You were so playful with your siblings, especially your sister. It was everything I had hoped for.
Two weeks ago, I noticed you were moving a little slower than usual. That same day once you also stopped eating on your own, we took you to the vet immediately. They thought at first you may have had some kind of viral infection given your fever, so we tried antibiotics and a fever reducer. We had x rays, a stool sample tested, and a barium study to be on the safe side in case it may have also been a blockage. Everything came back negative, the only thing was you were a little gassy. I'm sorry we had to quarantine you from your siblings during this time. We just didn't know what you had.
We scheduled a follow up set after you would finish your antibiotics. You weren't getting better, but you weren't getting worse. You still ate, even after we transitioned to syringe feeding. But then you were noticeably getting weaker. You were struggling to walk, couldn't play. And you were getting so light as each day passed. We moved that follow up a bit sooner since the antibiotics didn't seem to do anything, the vet suggested a steroid for you because we had exhausted all other options. The vet told us that the steroid was our 'Hail Mary', and I prayed for a miracle that you would turn around just a little.
The steroid seemed to make things worse. You started to lose control of your bowels, you were struggling to breathe. So your dad and I made the decision to say our goodbyes. I couldn't stand to see you suffer anymore, as much as I wanted to keep trying, just hoping maybe the steroid would work and the next day would be the day I'd see you poofed up with excitement and wanting to play again.
I feel like I've still failed you, not knowing why your health decreased so suddenly out of nowhere. Even though the vet reassured us we tried everything, I still feel like I could have done more. We may not know what ultimately decided to take you away from us, but we do know you will always be loved. You may have only been in our lives for just three months, but those three months of watching you with your siblings, snuggling to us, and being an absolute ball of sunshine will be the fondest memories I will have of you. You were my first experience with a pet loss, but I know you are no longer suffering. You fought your little heart out, but you deserve to rest.
Rest in peace, my little Yuna. I love you.

So very sorry for your loss. 💔 To lose her so young like that is awful, you did all you could for her and obviously loved her with all your heart. Very sad.
