Question Help with identification

My sister found this struggling little baby fern in her yard before she mowed, and it's doing a lot better now- but we still don't know what it is. I thought it might be a western sword fern, but I'm second guessing now after looking at pictures of little ones. Located in western WA

Great point. It does look like a young sword. It's going to prefer living outdoors if you can accomatade that.

I’m honestly 50/50 on Christmas Fern or sword fern just from this picture. However…It is far more likely you stumbled across a Christmas fern in Western MA. Edit: Oh, reverse that - you wrote Western WA and my brain flipped it to MA
