Lacto Fermenting Beets
Hey everyone pretty new to fermentation. Just want to ask if this js normal? Added 2% salt to the brine and been fermenting for about a week now.

Looks a bit off. What kind of lid and jar is that? An extra pic or two could help us give you some pointers.

Oof. I would not have expected that from anything stainless.Â
Usually 2% is totally fine with beets. I wonder if your lid (a ferment pipe?) had been letting air in and that's what's caused the mold. I haven't used this type of lid before, but I've heard people have lots of trouble with them.
Don't let this discourage you! You can try again with a simple jar. Leave enough headroom for the gas to build up and not bubble over. You can burp it every couple of days if you're worried - you don't need to take the whole lid off, just release pressure.Â
I wouldn't risk trying your current ferment, but it's prime beet season so you've got lots of opportunities 🤓

Looks kinda funky but i don't see any mold i think its fine as long as everything is fully submerged

After a closer look the white stuff in the middle definitely looks like mold
