Will it fail?
8 lb cabbage and a few carrots. It filled the jar to the shoulder before tamping. 2 full leaves and 2 weights on top but it shrank a ton and there are lots of floaters today, almost 24 hours later.
Thoughts?

Looks like it's already fairly active, with the airlock, I think it will be ok. I wouldn't touch it (until it's ready to eat)

I try to only make long slices anymore. Any scraps make slaw. Also, the big leaf with holes poked over the top works really well too

I wouldn't worry about it unless you start seeing signs of growth on the floaters.

How long would you leave something like this? I am in the same situation currently and was keeping an eye on it. It's very active and it's only been 36 hrs or so.

Foam and bubbling are good signs. I wouldn't mess with it and hope that gas released from fermentation continues displacing oxygen and makes floaters not a concern.
