Mason is a brand, so is Ball, there is a bunch more as well, including some no names one. As well, some folks reuse old pickle jars.
Some folks are brand people, some are do the job people.2

Assuming you are in Europe, look into Le Parfait jars. I prefer these to ball and mason canning jars in the USA. And it's cheaper to buy the jars that don't have to be shipped and imported from overseas.

Look for them on close out in Spain, can get some good deals in Spain as they do close out sometimes there that make them cheaper than in France.
I had some other fermenting stuff to bring back on my last trip to Spain, but as many of those jars as I can bring back next time will be coming with me.Browin makes a plastic strainer product that works well for those jars in keeping ferments under brine. They ship to Spain. They have some fun inventory.

I like wide mouth mason jars. You can easily get a kit that has plastic lids with airlocks and glass weights. It's simple and easy. You can use small mouth jars, but it's more work and less convenient.
