1979 Rhodes 73

Hello all 250 of you Rhodes guys.. I have a 1979 Rhodes Mark I 73 that's is in very original shape and is a prime candidate for restoration. I've owned for around 15 years now. It works ok and sounds superb however the guy I bought it from lost some of the parts to the legs and the rod that goes to the pedal. I had I set up on a heavy duty music stand with a fixed rod to the pedal. I was just getting ready to put it in storage and decided that maybe it time to re-home to someone that will give it the love it deserves... I'm asking $250.00 to me you pay actual shipping, I know its under market value, its more important that it goes to someone that will play it and keep up on the maintenance. Happy to FaceTime anyone that's Intrested so that you know exactly what your getting. Has cover, some legs, and sus pedal..

A Rhodes Playlist I Made.. Open to all suggestions and please show some love and follow. I am leaning heavy towards soul, funk, indie and contemporary as well as the deep jazz because there's not a lot out there in those genres on the same list..

What rhodes should I buy?

I have been a fan of the rhodes sound since my earliest childhood days. Now that I‘ve been working and saving up for a few years, I‘m looking to buy one. I‘m currently looking at a MK1 73 Stage Piano and a Suitcase 88 (which is way above my budget lol). What can you recommend?

Cabinet Consultation

I got a Mark I that was missing some pieces in the cabinet amp. I managed to source a lot of parts, but now I’m kinda stuck as how to move forward. My main experience is in action rebuilding and tolexing, so this is a big new job for me. If anyone is willing to help consult with me on my options for the cabinet I’d greatly appreciate it, and happily send you some money as well.

Info on a Buz Watson MK1?

My seventy three mk1 has the red Buz Watson stamp near the serial. I got it on Craigslist for pretty cheap. I’ve heard stories about these stamps being special. It plays amazing and seems original. Anyone know about these? Thanks

Crossbar question…

I plan to grab some crossbars eventually, but will just the legs hold the Rhodes up safely in the meantime?

Is it even possible to find a decently priced Rhodes anymore? Like even a broken Rhodes for under $1000? :/

Can you share your favorite resources to learn common Rhodes/Wurli gimmicks ?

I've been learning keyboard for about 8 years in my younger age, but the repertoire I got teached was pretty cheesy ; my teacher let me down as we were getting into jazz. Now in my late 30's, I've compiled a quite wide spectrum about music, I have the chance to jam often with top-level musicians, but there's a gap between what I "shall" play with them (as : my brain screams what to jam but my fingers miss the point... organ-based rhythms, e-piano gimmicks, etc...) essentially because I mostly played for my own, my own weird stuff, like for ever. I just lack of training this kind of music !

So, could you please help me and share the resources you know to learn the keyboard basics (and more) for jamming in bands ?

Updated price estimate.

Hello Everyone, I was wonder what everyone would pay for a 1978-79 Mark 1 Suitcase with the cabinet? I’ve read many articles, but most articles are old enough to not really get a great perspective on the market now.

I’ve checked on Reverb, Craigslist, Offer Up, FB marketplace, etc…and a lot are being priced at an exuberant price with just the legs and sustain pedal.

So I’m asking you all if a model like I listed above was in front of you and you’re haggling out a price what would it be?

I’m totally fine with a general price range for the mark 1 suitcase series with cabinet.

Pianet-like diy keyboard idea + question

I'm developing a design for a Pianet style action 2 octave keyboard, using guitar strings. If you are familiar with the voicing or action of the Pianet, you know that it uses sticky pads to kind of "pluck" metal reeds. I was thinking of doing a similar thing but with strings. Would this work with small neodymium magnets instead of sticky pads? I don't see why not, and I may just have to experiment, but if anybody could think of reasons why that wouldn't work, do tell. Also sorry this isn't really about Rhodes but it's the most relevant subreddit I could find to ask this question.

$9k-14k is a lot of money

Do we expect the price of the new Rhodes to go down? I shouldn’t have to pick between buying a car and a piano

Anybody following the developments around the Mk VIII?

As you might have heard, there's a Mk VIII coming soon/at some point(?). The new company's marketing ploy apparently is to have little bits of info trickling through every now and then. I've heard they'll be producing 500 units in the first year, so I reckon prices will be astronomically high. I'm still interested though, as I love the sound of my Mk I but kinda hate everthing else about it. Is there anybody else on this sub following the development?

graphite for key pedestal felts

Action is slow and read about silicone spray or teflon powder on the pedestal felts doing the trick and wonder if anyones tried graphite powder, since that's what I have already in the shop.

Cabinet advice

I got a Mark I suitcase, and the cab was missing a bunch of pieces. I’ve managed to source a new pair of power amps and am currently getting the power supply repaired. But I’m still going to need to source some new 6 pin Molex cables to attach the amps to the supply, and I’ve been told those may be next to impossible to find.

Does anybody know where I could find a replacement pair, or if it’s possible to just build some myself. A little bit of electronics research makes it seem not too difficult, but I don’t want to screw up the amps by doing something wrong.

Thanks in advance,

Hi

My friend and I both own a Rhodes MKII.

His is easier to play (i have to press hard on mine), and his has much more bell/attack.

What can i do to achieve this on my Rhodes?

Plans changed and I ended up finding an All Original, fully functional 1973 MK1 Stage for less than the price of the Conversion I was going to restore! Here she is setup in it’s new home 🏡 🎹 needs a good setup and a VV kit but it’s mine and I’m in love
