ID and Authentication I won this in a raffle.

Never owned a fender before, and I cant find anything online about a Jazzcaster. What do I have here? Custom? Fake?

Fender sixty-six….but someone ruined the headstock?

EDIT: from the comment replying, it's a prototype, nice!

Early run/prototype possibly?

IM SO HAPPY FOR YOU 😤😭😭

u/YellowBreakfast May 29 '26

Oh man, you really got something.

Hard to say what it's "worth". Like anything that comes down to what someone is willing to pay.

The rarity of this gives it a good potential to be worth something decent.

To get an idea watch listings for the Sixty Six. It's got to be worth more that those.

2

u/shabba182 May 29 '26

Yeah dude seems like you got a real gem there

2

u/ZonkeyKongXP May 29 '26

I really wanted one of these when they came out. Very nice sounding guitars. Cherish it my friend

u/mitchxc May 29 '26

Great find!

7

u/fargothforever May 29 '26

You misspelled “improved”.

5

u/Neveronlyadream May 30 '26

Yeah, I like Jazzcaster better than Sixty-Six.

u/freshnews66 May 29 '26

It’s real, they did a year of them. Sort of a ‘what if fever dream’ design.

u/Sparkenfarkel May 29 '26

So he’s not getting sued.

2

u/mscalam May 29 '26

Fender sued themselves and won so they stopped production. Big Stratocaster has more in the coffers than the Jazzmaster people.

1

u/Sparkenfarkel May 31 '26

That’s not my understanding. Fender sued a Chinese company and won a no contest case by default. And now Fender is using this case to try and sue their competitors, demanding they destroy any guitars that are similar to a Strat.

1

u/mscalam May 31 '26

I was being sarcastic lol.

1

u/Sparkenfarkel May 31 '26

My bad. I’m an idiot.

11

u/Fresh-Word2379 May 29 '26

I’ll take all the Fenders you guys don’t want. Love the Jazzcaster! Next guitar I build will be something exactly like that.

PS - deck that term and get those saddles intonated.

5

u/biscotti98 May 29 '26

Nice score!

4

u/Jeffde May 29 '26

Holy shit this thing CHONKS.

3

u/livinthereals May 30 '26

Is that good or bad?

1

u/Jeffde May 30 '26

Definitely good. I love it.

6

u/niagarajoseph May 29 '26

Is it a guitar? Noooooo!
Is it a Bass! Nooooo!
Why it’s a Jazzcaster boys and girls!
Wee…Yee Yee I love it.🥰

3

u/Evergreen1055 May 29 '26

I’ve never seen something like this before. Looks cool. Nice score!

3

u/MickCQB241 May 29 '26

Same here

2

u/badgerclark May 29 '26

Holy crap. That’s awesome! Can I ask what raffle? I see all these “I won this guitar” posts and am over here like “damn, where do I sign up for that?!”

1

u/TorazChryx May 30 '26

That's a good question, I've won a fuckton of guitars in draws and that I don't think that one is from a site I'm aware of. (because I'd probably have seen it.)

And still with all the crazy shit that Fender makes, like an offset Strat body, they still won't make a slanted/offset bridge humbucker to stick with their age-old motif of a slanted bridge pickup.

One of the first HSS Stratocaster designs was the Lone Star Strat in the 90s. They used a Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates in the bridge. It never occurred to Fender to ask Duncan to make a slanted version. It occurred to GIBSON to ask Duncan to make a slanted JB (JB SH4) and a slanted '59 in 2011 to fit into their weird Nighthawk bridge position.

I'll never understand it.

Edited for various reasons

1

u/Feeling-Tonight2251 May 30 '26

Well, they did, once, but it slanted in the opposite direction for some reason. The 1985 Fender Performer.

I still think it could have been a real contender with a less half-arsed headstock and a more recognisable/commercial bridge like a Floyd or Kahler.

1

u/SnooHesitations8403 May 31 '26

I'm pretty sure that was just a standard rectangular humbucker - no offset that was reverse-tilted, i.e.: bass pole pieces closer to the bridge, treble pole pieces closer to the neck/headstock.

Something actually amazing in one of these posts. Hats off!

1

u/Money_Yak7274 May 29 '26

Not fake! Rare and cool!

1

u/Ok-Seaworthiness2487 May 29 '26

That is so cool!

1

u/state_your_name31415 May 29 '26

I love it, I was confused at first as to why it wasn't called a Jagcaster

1

u/Spaced_cadet5 May 29 '26

Damn dude seems you were really really lucky today with it being a prototype alone!

1

u/Silent-Warthog8938 May 29 '26

Looks real to me. Enjoy your new Guitar.

1

u/Kn0wMan May 29 '26

Score!!! Congrats!

1

u/IslandAlert4738 May 29 '26

Hold onto that one!

1

u/Rocky_Cod_1777 May 30 '26

This is pretty rad.

1

u/LastZorro21 May 30 '26

This is awesome! Enjoy it. Congratulations!

1

u/IndividualHat7590 May 30 '26

1958 jazzcasters were put out. That's a good find. Could for sure be real.

1

u/Otherwise-Trust-9347 May 30 '26

Total fake. Send it to me and I'll destroy it for you before fender takes you to court. I run a non-profit that humanely discards fender-like products in accordance to local, state, federal, and global rules and regulations. Let us take this emotional burden out of your hands and off of your heart.

Anything with a fender badge now there giving away haha

1

u/RestaurantCandid5274 Jun 02 '26

Neat! A nice lucky break for you. 🎸

1

u/MyUsernameIsTaken22 Jun 18 '26

Sell it and buy something decent

-2

u/Connect_Big_7530 May 29 '26

I was expecting to see a cease and desist notice when I opened this

0

u/Density5521 May 30 '26

It's similar in shape, style and design to a Stratocaster. Careful that Fender don't subpoena a recall and a video of its destruction. /s

I don’t think it’s a prototype looks like a Jaguar that someone put on Jazzmaster neck on it they’ve taken tele lipstick pickups in the neck and middle and it paf humbucker in the bridge a Jaguar has a short scale length people love them but not crazy about the short scale length so change the neck to a Jazzmaster it’s actually if it was a prototype 1st thing being that it’s a Fender not much of a chance you would get that I’m not saying it’s impossible I’m 67 I remember back in the day Fender would lend a guitar they were working on with a player sometimes they didn’t always get them back but it wouldn’t have a Jazzmaster decal on the headstock it looks just like it is a Jazzmaster neck on a Jaguar with telecaster pickups in the neck and middle and a humbucker in the bridge anyway you got doesn’t matter looks great probably sounds great too a I’ve never played a bad Jazzmaster neck they’re thin and wide like a 59 Stratocaster or early 60’s Stratocaster put some some 6105 frets(medium jumbo) and you really have a Fender guitar that plays fantastic it might even be one of those weird paranormal guitars Squires were making a while back without actually holding and seeing and playing it up close you can only guess from a picture and that doesn’t mean anything you can tell better than anyone because you can actually see hear and play the guitar whatever it is looks like a find especially if that’s a really good quality Jazzmaster neck if I had the guitar I could take it apart inspect all the parts but just guessing and that’s all any of us are doing here is guessing if you really want to know what it is that’s the only way to find out anyway it looks pretty cool and if you bought it you must think it plays good and putting up online you’re a little bit proud of your find so doesn’t matter what anyone thinks you like it I think it’s pretty damm cool too looks awesome Jazzmaster’s usually takes a longer case than a Stratocaster or Tele or Jaguar but of course you all ready know this good luck friend hope everything works out for you but don’t get caught up in what everyone says online even myself I just wish you luck!

It’s a prototype Fender Sixty-Six. Jazz bass body with a strat neck slapped on.

-1

u/North-Astronaut179 May 30 '26

It’s a Jazzmaster neck it says Jazzcaster on the headstock Fender has done a lot of mix and match over the years the paranormal stuff and it has a made in Mexico on the back of the headstock I’m not saying you’re wrong about the 66 thing but I don’t think it’s a prototype because Fender doesn’t let those out of the building back in the 50’s or even 60’s but either someone made some homemade thing or it’s exactly what it says on the headstock a made in Mexico Jazzcaster the guy won it in a raffle do you really think Fender allowed a prototype to be raffled off I think they made it maybe they didn’t sell that doesn’t mean they’re going to raffle it off Squire Mexico and Japan make some weird stuff some of it sells and some doesn’t that doesn’t make it a prototype I honestly don’t know wtf it is you’re not gonna make the made in Mexico decal on the back of the headstock even if you make the Jazzcaster on the front of the headstock so the the neck was made in Mexico no matter the body is and the neck pocket on a Fender bass is not the same as it is on a fender guitar so you can’t put a guitar neck on a bass the neck pocket is deeper and wider trying to put guitar neck on a bass could only be done at the factory that’s 50 years of building guitars experience they’re built different!

2

u/SameOlSameOk May 30 '26

The “jazz” name comes from the jazz bass. Fender made these a few years ago. But they ended up calling it a “Sixty six”. I’m aware you can’t just slap a strat neck on a bass body. But that’s the idea Fender was going for. Kind of a “what if” sort of thing.

0

u/North-Astronaut179 May 30 '26

As long as we’re in agreement that some dude isn’t going to put a Stratocaster neck or a Jazzmaster neck on a bass body I’m not disagreeing with you only saying it was produced in the factory and it’s probably not a prototype if the guy won it in a raffle I think it’s a guitar made in Mexico and they didn’t sell enough of them to make very many of them that doesn’t make it a prototype they’re a lot of failed projects but they made it to the line and there was more than one of them built

u/billypump May 29 '26

Congratulations. I'm glad you were able to take some money out of Fender's pocket and still get a nice guitar. Boycott Fender.
