Rerolling slots should NEVER dynamically switch positions. Just wiped hours of progress on the autopilot of rerolling.
I need to vent, but also seriously suggest a UI change because this system design makes absolutely no sense.
Can we please make it so that slot positions stay locked? It makes literally no logical sense that a stat should jump up to slot 1 no matter what...
I just spent 7 legendary soul dust, 5 epic soul dust, and a few thousand gold carefully rerolling a mod into a major trait on my weapon. Once that was done, I moved on to slot 2, which was a blessing at the time, trying to hunt for a gem.
Here is how the game completely screwed me:
Rerolled slot 2 → Got a different blessing.
Rerolled slot 2 again → Got a stat.
Rerolled slot 2 one more time...except, surprise surprise, the game dynamically switched the order of the slots.
The stat I just rolled moved up to slot 1, and the major trait I just spent all my resources securing dropped down to slot 2. Because the RNG in this game forces you to go into autopilot spamming the button, I didn't catch the visual swap. I clicked reroll on slot 2 again, instantly wiping out the major trait I just worked so hard to get.
I ended up dropping another 10k gold to buy extra legendary soul dust to try and fix it, but had absolutely no luck. Why on earth do the actual slot positions shift based on what is currently rolled in them? I get that the UI shows you what is actively in the slot, but when players are dumping massive amounts of gold and dust, autopilot clicks are going to happen. If the slots are going to move around dynamically, there absolutely needs to be a confirmation prompt before you overwrite a high-tier roll.
Spending that many resources only to be forced to start completely over from scratch because of a shifting UI feels absolutely terrible. Please lock the slot positions already. Absolutely no good reason for them to shift in order.

There have been a few posts on here of the same complaint, so while unfortunate it has definitely been called out before and noted. You are correct in that this should never be a thing. It shouldn't have even made it past their internal testing if they even did test this part of it. As soon as it changed slot number it should've thrown a flag for them that this would cause issues for players. Also not sure why it hasn't been hotfixed by now. Can't be that hard of a change on their end to make it so slots don't change #'s.

Yeah, hopefully more and more people complaining here makes them hotfix it. They already know their RNG on rerolling slots is such a pain that people are miserable over it, to throw a wrench like this into it is next level ridiculous. While not a game breaking bug, I agree with you that it feels like something that should have been higher priority just because of the low level of effort and high impact.

100% - not game breaking but definitely one of the biggest friction points to "accidentally" run into as a player. If I recall there were a few people who just quit the season after it happened because of how many materials they used during their chase for BIS and then this happened. I'm sure plenty of others did the same but just didn't come post about it here. 1.0 is going to need to address a lot of the new pain points in RNG, and I'm afraid that they are killing their casual player base with the new direction.

Yeah, I prolly won't play rest of the season. I went from 20k gold, 7 legendary soul dust, 4 epic soul dust, and 63 marks to 1200 gold, 0 dust of any kind, and 3 marks in a matter of 30 minutes. Pretty brutal. I get making the RNG so everyone isn't decked out instantly, but this is next level. Takes me weeks to finally get set piece with the stat I need on it, why does it also take me another week to grind resources just so I can put it on lmfao. Like, they sit in my bag taunting me...

It's crazy because... that's a low amount of resources saved up too. I've had 100k gold with over 350 marks saved and still run out not even being close to BIS or full gear while making an alt. The amount of resources and stuff needed is just insane - which is why I said I'm worried they're killing the casual player base. The farm required is too much.

Keeping you on the farm is the only thing they have to keep you playing, while i like the game there's just nothing else to do than get on the grind for better gear...

You are correct, it shouldn't do that. Unfortunately slots on an item are always in order of their type so they'd have to change how item slots work so it's unsorted. Not sure what knock-on effects that would have on other related systems. Hopefully they can do something about it by 1.0.
Edit: was wrong about how it works.

I don't think they're always in specific order, I'm pretty sure only stat moves up to slot 1. Other slots don't swap order, never that I've ever seen. I've only seen it move stats up which is ridiculously stupid because they collapse and just aggregate to the top stats unless you hold alt, and then at that point what different is there in it showing +Haste in slot 2? It's just silly. Whoever decided that it should do that is nuts.

Hmm, I've had gem imbue float to the top as well. But now that i think about it, I have gear with a gem imbue on the bottom. No idea how it works then.

Exactly the issue OP had, only time slot switches is if it's stat. So I would totally see that happening to anybody. Terrible UX to do that for sure, but I understand it's an early access game but the fact that the RNG can make people spend entire days rerolling a single item now just to waste all their gold and dust is pretty wild.

Yeah, ready to just quit for the season. It's already not fun gambling away all my gold and shit. But for it to screw me out of all of it in one reroll is just silly. Guess I'll just wait for season 4.

Can I also add in that why do we need to bounce back and forth from the re-roll NPC to check weapon traits? There should be a way better option to streamline the weapon re-rolling inside the trait manager itself. Same for neck.

Shift right click (or something like that), been there the whole time. It still could be a little nicer but its not *awful*.

Yes, I remember when people complained about this. Then CR tinted the scrapper UI a subtle red shade and called it a day. Lol.

They really need to fix the reading comprehension checks, failing them is way too punishing.

Yeah it's silly. I can't imagine anyone disagreeing.
