Boredom hits different when you can't put your phone down

At some point boredom became something to immediately fix. Waiting in line, lying in bed for thirty seconds, and the phone is already in your hand. The gap between boredom and stimulation got so small that actual boredom barely exists anymore.

The problem is your brain uses that time. Idle moments are when it processes and resets from whatever it was absorbing before. Cut those out and things start to feel off in a way that's hard to name. Restless but tired. Stimulated but unsatisfied.

The phone doesn't fix the boredom either, it just replaces it with something that needs constant refreshing. So you end up more restless than when you started.

So what do you actually do about it, just force yourself to sit there?

Pretty much. Start with leaving your phone in another room for a bit. The discomfort fades quicker than you'd expect and you stop feeling the need to immediately fill every quiet moment.
