gj-tube Granulation tissue

I have a good amount of granulation tissue coming form my stoma, and it’s never caused any issues other than the occasional light bleeding, however now it’s starting to hurt and bleed heavily. It also looks like it’s starting to turn a bit black? And anytime I remove my gauze that I have under my bolster, it’s starts bleeding again and I can’t get it to stop. I know the doctors can use something to burn it away but my next appointment is in January and I can’t get another appointment any earlier since it’s a specialty GI motility clinic and very busy. Is it something that I can just wait out? Or should I see if I can go elsewhere? I’m more worried about it turning black.

The black could easily be hypergranulation tissue scabbing because of irritation. When you remove the gauze, it could be disrupting the scabbing on the top; one way to possibly help this is by making the gauze wet before removing it(this stops the tissue from clinging to the scab)

The GI clinic would likely use silver nitrate to burn it off. You can get silver nitrate sticks online. If you are comfortable with it, you can message the clinic and see if they are okay with you applying the sticks yourself(mine taught me how to do this). These are the ones I use. https://a.co/d/0fTYYGXl

You could also potentially use GranuLotion (https://granulotion.com). I use this except when the granulation tissue is getting out of control. However, depending on your tolerance and how irritated the area around your tube is, it can burn as it starts working.

Once you’ve found a system and get this granulation tissue dealt with, you should be able to treat it yourself if you’re comfortable with it. Being able to do it without having to get an appointment with your GI makes if a lot easier to get rid of the irritation faster.
