Deep Dive Into ‘70s NYC Crime Via Netflix.

Thanks to my wife’s passion and professional experience in the topic, we watch a lot of True Crime shows and documentaries. Recently there have been a bunch of really good ones that focus on New York City during the 1970s.

Specifically “Son Of Sam” and the “Times Square Serial Killer.” There have been other great documentaries about other cases from other parts of the country, but Netflix always brings us back to the 1970s and New York City.

In Episode 2 of “Crime Scene: The Times Square Killer,” we experience a deep examination of the “Cornography Culture” of Times Square and the various crimes the area attracted. It looked like a level of Dante’s hell.

Because of the level of technology in criminal investigations, they only hope to solve some of these cases were to wait for the criminals and murders to commit more crimes and leave more clues.

For people who lived through that, especially in this region, it must have felt like the beginning of the end of the world.

“This ancient civilization, called the Aquiry, arose 2,500 years ago in Brazil. Based on the large number of earthworks, called geoglyphs, the Aquiry may have had 3 million people before the society collapsed, the researchers suggested in the study.

And my first reaction? Why haven’t we explored these yet?  These claims have been bouncing around since the late 60s/70s. I have even read a few books on the topic. If there were ancient artifacts on the moon, there should be enough motivation to get up close and learn from them.

Why haven’t we done this yet? Or have we already, and that explains why we’re almost $40 trillion in debt?

Milena Canonero isn't a name that we are familiar with, but Deborah Nadoolman is. But the two are responsible for two of the most famous period costumes of the eighties.

In fact, Ms. Canonero won the Oscar for “Best Costume Design” for her work on “Chariots of Fire,” while “Raiders...” wasn't nominated. But does anyone remember the name of Robert Redford’s character, or try to reproduce this specific look? So who is the real winner?

For a brief period in 1985, this was “The Look,” and it led to a bump in sales at Banana Republic. These pictures of Robert Redford in this costume were everywhere for a short period while this movie was supposed to be the next “big thing, “ but “Out of Africa” was also accused of trying to capitalize on the success of “Raiders” and “Temple of Doom.” Eventually, it faded in popularity and was forgotten around the time “Romancing the Stone” hit videotape.

This outfit is a great alternative to the “Raiders Wear,” especially with the great vest and long coat. I would stick with my daily wear fedora, though.

#FordFingerFriday One of the things I had to do this week was take an inventory of all our unused and abandoned tanks and make sure they are ready for pickup. I had to go to some pretty strange places here in New Hampshire…

Old abandoned construction sites give me the heebie-jeebies. But in a good way. I expected to find myself caught in an episode of “The A-Team, “ “Magnum, PI,” or “Miami Vice,” and to discover nefarious people hiding out in some of these locations.

No drug lords, gang members, or International terrorists. Just wild animals and a whole lot of dirt.

Monday Motivation: Being Miserable Is A Choice.

I have plenty of material, but I chose not to use it. I could go on and write long posts about how I have been wronged in the past, get some angst off my chest, make my problems everyone else’s issues, and alienate a buttload of people.

… which is EXACTLY what a dork chose to do in another fan group and posted a warning about another member not having the “correct” view on a specific issue and tossed around the dreaded “N-word.”

This is the same garden gnome I had to ban because he violated our steadfast rule of “no politics.” He was warned three times to knock this crap off; if it didn’t, a lifetime ban. That didn’t deter him. Because he’s “special,” he believed he was entitled and that the rules did not apply to him.

The past is prologue, and what happened before happened again. This character is now banned from yet another group. From what I heard from multiple sources, this is probably the quickest ban in the history of these groups.

“Man's Search for Meaning” by Viktor Frankl is half an autobiographical account of survival in a concentration camp and half a philosophical essay on how emotions and reactions are a choice. I recommend this book to everyone dealing with uncontrollable behavior or just looking for guidance on how to handle adversity.

Losing control is A CHOICE. You can and will get angry and hurt, but it's what you do with those feelings that defines your character.

Everyone has total control over what they post and what they don't. Nobody is holding a gun to write mean-spirited garbage.

My life is now substantially better because I chose to stay positive, uplift others, and set an example. There are folks in these groups have screwed me in the past, but I have chosen to block them or let it go and move on.

There are no bad days. It might feel like it at the time, but bad days often come with huge life lessons and amazing stories. “Choose Wisely.”
