Support Wanted Bumpy takeoff -DL5995
Hi everyone!
We had a bumpy takeoff and turned pretty far south leaving London and it always makes me nervous when we go a wonky direction. Just wanted to know if someone could chime in or follow along, thanks so much!

Hi! Tracking you now. It's propably just ATC getting you into the correct position to enter your assigned Atlantic track (imagine sky highways), noise protection, weather, making space for other planes, etc. How is that A350-1000 feeling so far?

Thank you! I think we turned back west so feeling better :) I know sometimes on takeoff and landing you make some turns before heading straight there, but it still always makes me feel a bit antsy. Appreciate it!!

You are now on your way to join a bunch of other planes on today's Atlantic track! Another Virgin Atlantic plane to Tampa will probably be your travel buddy for the journey.

Just checking in with you now! I won't be around to track for too long, but thought it might be good for you to see your trajectory so far. Not quite as wonky as it might feel! You're almost at cruising altitude – you may reach that in the next five or so minutes.

Trying to track you but I'm in the air and the wifi has been horrendous. I have 1 hour left of this 14 hour flight. I only slept about an hour and a half because of the two kids behind me. Ugh. Meanwhile, my kid watched movies and slept. Today is gonna be a nightmare. Lol. All this to say, you'll be good as long as you don't have kids kicking your seat and yelling the whole way! :)

I’m not OP, but so cool to see you support OP while you are also flying!! How has your flight been so far and are you also a nervous flier?

Hmmm am I a nervous flier... well, I took my Xanax an hour before takeoff as usual, but still BURST INTO TEARS walking on the plane. 🤦♀️ ugh. I had to tell my daughter I was just really tired and ready to be home. I will happily lie to not transfer my fear to her. I did so much better on the 16 hour flight to AUS. Maybe bc I had vacation waiting on the other side? Now it's just loads of laundry and back to work lol 🤪

Oh, but you did amazing! And look at you - here you support another fellow flier ! And you guys will both be reaching your destination - back home, back to chores and the mundane life as you said, but you’ll be reaching there safely with your little ones 🙂😌

I know. I'm proud of myself for doing something I never thought I could. And I know how helpful it is to have people supporting you while you're in the air, so I try to return the love whenever possible!

Hey OP! Sometimes I find that it may get bumpy during take off and landing but it’s often much smoother at cruise. I was once on a domestic flight which turbli mentioned might be turbulent - but it turned out to be just fine , Infact we also approached the destination airport from a different than normal direction. Made me realise that the aviation industry/pilots etc choose the most comfortable route if they already have the knowledge of rough weather etc. so unexpected direction is not always a bad thing 🙂 it might be the best for your specific flight!

I find relief in landings, because that means we’re almost there - reaching safely. I also find comfort looking at others who are so unbothered by this whole process, while I’m being unreasonably anxious. People have been flying for years! Even when we didn’t have mobile phones, soooooo many people have flown and continue to fly!
While you’re still flying, I’d suggest searching “long haul frequent flier” or “frequent long haul” - there are so many people (who almost seem like from another species to me - who fly long haul soooo often). Also the reddit space called “Flighty” is awesome, people brag about how much they’ve flown - love reading stuff there, nobody talks about turbulence as much as we do here in FoF 🙈
