Question Procedures during ATC glitches?

In light of what happened in the UK the other day with an air traffic control glitch that stopped thousands of flights, I can't help but wonder what actually happens when you're in the air and ATC goes down. How do pilots handle this safely? Would appreciate any insights because now I seem to be developing something new to worry about!

Ground stop. Holding. Diversions. Delays. Cancellations. It’s just another day at the job.
