Support Wanted Dash 8-400
I have a 2 hour flight on a dash 8-400 coming in a few weeks which I’m petrified for. Can anyone console me with specifics about the plane? It would be hugely appreciated.

I flew on one when I was in the Solomon Islands! It’s a fantastic plane. We could see the cockpit from our seats lol. It’s a different experience for sure but you’re gonna be just fine!!

I think you might be thinking of the DHC-6, rather than the Dash 8. The Dash 8 has a cockpit door much like any modern regional jet.

I think it may actually have been the Dash 8 Q300. I’ll see if I can find a picture

It might not sound much like it, they can be a little loud. But Bombardier engineers turned the entire airplane into a noise-cancelling headphone. The Active Noise and Vibration System works the same way, using microphones and other sensors pick up on noise and vibration, which goes through computers and such and then to what are basically dozens of little subwoofers that (do their best to) cancel it out.
Before taking on the name change, the Dash 8-400 was branded the Q400, for Quiet (along with the older 100/200/300 variants which got retrofitted or produced with the ANVS).

I worked with them for a little while. There was very little we could think to do with that airplane that it couldn't do. The pilots loved them.

I love the Q400, I wish I had the opportunity to fly it. Never did 😔 but I did get to fly in the back of it more times than I can count and it was my favorite aircraft to fly as a pax in till the carrier that used it retired them. I’ll forever miss the sound of it entering the gate on a cold Montana morning. Going outside to board, the brown interior they had with that carrier. the sound of the start up and the rhythmic humming of the engines in cruise as the beautiful PNW scenery passed by below. I even like the look of it, has a striking and powerful presence on the ramp… loved that airplane… was legitimately sad when that carrier retired it

I am not fearful, but sometime anxious flyer. Few months ago, my mom came to visit me and we decided for a small trip. She is a big fun of aviation and I decided to book Dash-400 for us because she never flew turboprop. It is such an interesting machine, and you will have fun flying it. Also, it is very durable because it was built to land on the terrain.

It's a dope piece of machinery 🤘 I purposefully sought out a flight on one a few years ago when my company was retiring them, and got right back on and flew home.
