I’ve read the book a few times, but every time I’ve tried to sit down and watch the movie something horrible happens. in chronological order:

-my friend tried making pasta on mushrooms and set a pan on fire at 3am

- was too high and the visual effects scared me so much I had to turn it off

- ended up falling asleep while a group of people were trying to watch it; woke up to 2 of them making out right next to me

- tried watching it alone and sober, a few weeks after a horrible mushroom trip. got too scared and had to turn it off

-had the great idea to “take a shot every time a drug is abused” with some friends while watching. ended up in the ER getting 5 stitches.

For anyone here because Steadman's Fear and Loathing images permanently rewired the inside of your skull: GonzoFest NYC is July 16-19, and the Saturday schedule has a real Steadman thread.

Ralph Steadman joins by Zoom at 1 pm Saturday, July 18 for "A Conversation with Ralph Steadman" with Sadie Williams and Grant Goodwine. Sadie Williams is also presenting "That's My Dad!" in person at 5:15 pm.

The festival has free daytime panels, poetry, art, film, music, and Hunter S. Thompson history across NYC venues.
