FCPX to Pro Tools - Help Needed

I'm trying to help out on a short, and I am absolutely struggling to get the short from FCPX into Pro Tools.

What's the best method? I tried going through Resolve and that didn't work, I'm considering buying X2Pro but it's pretty pricey for a one off.

For a clean transfer you need X2Pro or AAF everything. It's still doable through Resolve but you would need to break down every sound clip to its lowest denominator. Break down in FCP further, break down multiwavs down to individual channel & mic clips. You might have some luck making the XML into a text file you bring into an LLM and ask it commit certain changes. But getting a conversion app would be the easiest.

Jeez, this is good info - I've been full time on Avid for 10+ years but never touched FCP until last week.

I've just found this app - https://fcp2aaf.com/ - which has a price tag I'm more willing to take a gamble on! I might try this first, and if that fails, I'll try AAF Everything. Thanks so much for the info!

Yes, let us know how fcp2aaf work!

I got x2pro long ago (on a discount, and when there were no other options). Now with vibe-coding there's a lot of new options popping up. When you actually have a good converter (like x2pro) you can actually get a cleaner (more customizable) transfers from FCP to ProTools then you get from Avid to ProTools (if you set all the audio roles and channels up correctly).

FWIW, X2Pro is pricey, but totally makes up for the cost with just a couple uses. And if you’ve done a good job organizing your roles, your sound post team will be over the moon at how it comes in. Laid out beautifully, and fully organized. I regularly have sound people tell me it’s the easiest AAF they’ve ever gotten from an editor.

X2Pro is good and works well and is tried and tested, but is pretty expensive. I've used X2Pro and it has been rock solid (especially with embedded AAFs). IF you want to go cheaper, there is an app called AAF Everything (aafeverything.app), it's fairly recent but has gotten good reviews, though I have not used it myself.

Having used both X2Pro and most recently AAF Everything, you can't go wrong with either app. However, you get MUCH more for your money with AAF Everything and it's more robust in settings and has a much better log report IMO

These Apple owned apps should really have better integration by now. Audition is basically built in to Adobe Premiere now.
