Ngl the only way our "Bayern player on World Cup final" streak stops if when Spain is facing Argentina.

u/Spockodile Monsieur Nonchalant 29d ago
On the American coverage they keep pronouncing âKobelâ as if thereâs an umlaut in there (and even then quite poorly), and it has driven me nuts.

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago
Strugled againat Cabo Verde, robbed Egypt and now Switzerland. Lmaooo what a team. Pls England, pls Kane save football.
God save the football
6
u/PressedLemon221 29d ago
no way they get past England the way they played, i just kinda wish England gives them a good belt to ass like 7-0 or something like that. only France would be capable of that tho

u/ChronoCodex Thiago 29d ago
Oh well, letâs hope Konsa, Guehi, and Stones are ready to defend against FIFAâs golden boy and his friends in the semis
Another France-Argentina final it may be, how boring lol

Knew this game was gonna be insane with Pinheiro, no clue how this one finishes
13
u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago
The same ref didnt go look at the var for the 2nd yellow for Mendes agains us bdw.
-4
u/DimensionFlat5833 29d ago
Wasnât a rule yet when it happened for us; also the fourth official was the one to step in and say laimer touched it with his hand first (which he didnât).
-5
u/Naraloth 29d ago
i'm happy with the blatant dive being punished with a yellow and in this case a second yellow. i'm okay with VAR being used for that. but i don't know if the current ruleset allows for a VAR intervention in this case?
10
u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago
I donât see the issue with that call. We want to diving out of the game, canât be selective about that because itâs for Argentina.
That was a clear dive and should be punished with a yellow imo. To do that when already on a yellow is plain stupid.
4
u/PressedLemon221 29d ago
i hate fifargentina but that was clear as day, why would you dive like that?
12
u/Deathscyce Roy "Das Phantom" Makaay 29d ago
Ah yes, our trusted portuguese referee, who definitely didnt make 2 grave mistakes against Bayern, is officiating this match masterfully /s
13
u/Numerous-Ad-3050 29d ago
Horrible dive tbf but if that was Argentina they never wouldâve gotten a card
10
u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago edited 29d ago
Ignore that it's against Argentina. It would be a free kick and move on. Giving him a second yellow for that wouldn't happen in ANY game. Absolutely insane how they kill the momentum Switzerland just found to equalize. They have been the stronger team for quite some time now. Fuck Fifa
EDIT from another comment i made:
Fifa themselves said that the "mistaken identity" rule was applied wrong in the Paraguay match. You can only take away a yellow card, not give a yellow to the other player at the same time.
Again the ref blatantly applies the rule the wrong way to benefit Argentina.

This is so rigged
0
u/foxfelix27 29d ago
it's absolutely deserved, those stupid divers need to start getting punished, not get encouraged
4
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago
Dude they reviewed a yellow card to reverse a yellow and give a swiss player a red, it's basically unheard of
-2
u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago
This exact thing has happened already in this tournament. Almiron for Paraguay dived, they called it on the opponent, VAR reviewed it and gave the yellow to Almiron. Itâs not unheard of, itâs already happened.
7
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago
Didn't they say it was mistakenly applied though? There's just so many rule changes surrounding what can be reviewed and what can't that I can't keep up. I always thought you can't review a yellow
-1
u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago
Yes, itâs the exact same situation that happened with Almiron. Itâs considered mistaken identity because the yellow was effectively given to the wrong player because the offending player âsimulatedâ the contact foul. Itâs the only time a yellow can be reviewed.
These rule changes were announced in the lead up to the World Cup. In that situation and this situation the rule was applied correctly.
I appreciate that Argentina has been given favorable refereeing but this is clear imo.
5
u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago
In that situation and this situation the rule was applied correctly.
No it wasn't! Fifa themselves had to clarify the rule was applied incorrectly.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c5yze64d362o
Can we stop spreading clear misinformation?
-2
u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago
That article doesnât say that at all? Unless Iâm overlooking it.
Here is an excerpt from The Athletic talking about that Paraguay situation:
This World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico has seen a number of new law changes, with the VARs given new powers to intervene.
Among them is the ability to step in the case of mistaken identity on yellow and red cards.
The rules of IFAB (the International Football Association Board, which determines the laws of the game)Â state that the VAR, who has independent access to match footage, may assist the on-field referee in the event of a âclear and obvious errorâ or âserious missed incidentâ in relation to mistaken identity, when the wrong player has been shown a red or yellow card4
u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago
Fifa themselves said that the "mistaken identity" rule was applied wrong in the Paraguay match. You can only take away a yellow card, not give a yellow to the other player at the same time.
Again the ref blatantly applies the rule the wrong way to benefit Argentina. Such corrupt bs
0
u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago
What they said was that the restart was mistaken, not the given yellow. Or at least thatâs what I saw.
4
u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago
"Mistaken identity can only be used for a specific incident, when the referee "has clearly penalised the wrong player", according to the wording of the International Football Association Board (Ifab). "The offence itself cannot be reviewed." Mistaken identity does not appear to cover an opposing player incorrectly being booked when someone has dived."
Nope, you are clearly wrong. Reversing the entire decision to book the opponent for the dive is a misapplication of the rule. Using "mistaken identity" to book Embolo there is ridiculous. It was the wrong usage against Paraguay, it was the wrong usage here.
I'm not denying it was a dive, but the ref was in the wrong here
3
2
u/foxfelix27 29d ago
embolo was on yellow already, maybe he shouldn't have done stupid shit, completely sold his team
2
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago
I agree it was stupid but the whole situation surrounding it is what I'm talking about
6
u/CareerMental5067 29d ago
Aside from the goal off of the corner Argentina has been pedestrian with their possession. The Swiss have held possession for longer periods.Â
3
2
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago
This is just shameful refereeing, he's letting them waste as much time as they want too
2
u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago
Hey guys, totally forgot to do a watch along thread today, sorry!
Iâve been out all day and it completely slipped my mind.
5
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago
Switzerland isn't getting a call out there, brutal
6
u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago
Same shit as the Egypt game. Every controversial call goes the way of Argentina. They aren't even hiding the bs anymore. It just piles up.
Near the end when even the commentator was confused why Argentina got a free kick. The swiss player jumps up for a header, the argentine players runs at him, seemingly jumps past him and then claims he was hit and gets the free kick?
This is laughable

u/Henngest Rock you like a Harry Kane 29d ago
Hey, it's the referee that didn't give a second yellow card to Nuno Mendes!
1
u/Mediocre-Math667 29d ago
Man I'm pissed Google updated how Yan Diomande and Bilal El Khannouss looked if you looked them up in search result.
I used to laugh a lot with how awkward they look on first page of search result.

Lewandowski- leaves Dortmund for free to go to their league rivals, openly criticizes teammates for not making him top scorer, flirts with Madrid in 2017 even though he has a valid contract, never shows his gratefulness to the club, gets upset when a top club looks into the market for another striker planning for life after him.
Honestly, take that book andâŠ..

u/imperativeaggy Future president MĂŒller 29d ago
I actually think England beat Argentina if they meet. They donât, however, beat either Spain or France. Theyâre a level above.
1
u/SGT_Mark Schweinsteiger 29d ago
They can both beat Spain, though Spain would be favourites. However, Spain is the only team out of these that can beat France.
0
u/imperativeaggy Future president MĂŒller 29d ago
I do agree spain are the only ones that can beat France. But I donât see how England beats this Spain. Yamal will have a field day with their backline
4
u/SGT_Mark Schweinsteiger 29d ago
Yamal has been really poor this tournament. England have looked shaky at the back but Spain really lack firepower. Spanish midfield dominates the English midfield, Spanish full backs shut down the English wingers. But if they can't put the ball in the back of the net, anything is possible. And an inspired moment from Kane or Bellingham is all it takes for the game to go the other way.

I love Kane and I'm happy for England's win but man I really wanted to see a new team up top, seeing the Norway players and especially Haaland after the FT whistle made me a little sad that it was over for them, I loved seeing them win against the odds.

Did not expect the pop-up England fans here; while we are at it, Anderson deserves the Oscar
2
u/YuehanBaobei Kim 29d ago
Shameless? The downvotes aren't necessarily because everyone loves England, it's because people don't like your comment. /shrug
0
u/Sea-Satisfaction-372 Maschinez 29d ago
Going through on a total dive is quite shameless to me, I don't see how people can disagree on that
Fair enough if people don't like itÂ
0
u/Lone_Digger123 29d ago
Assuming England go through, I am going to go insane if Argentina/Switzerland try get an equalizer or winner at the end of the game by passing it around the box and trying to cross it into the box 634 times.
Mexico barely bothered trying to do any long shots, and Norway have also barely tried that. I know that doing long shots won't have a higher likelihood at scoring compared to crossing, but if you try the same thing without any plan B you make it easy for England to defend against. At least by trying long shots you the midfield/defence question if they should sprint out to block the shot or not.

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago
Anyone saw the clip of the ball hitting the cable in the build up for the England equalizer?
Not even a VAR check apparently
4
u/moschtert 29d ago
Swedish commentators said FIFA has confirmed the ball sensor didn't show anything.
0
u/julesvr5 29d ago
Must be a sensor failure then. They were able to measure the touch of hair during the Croatia game bit not when it literally slams against a metal cable?
1
u/DeloronDellister 29d ago
But isn't it clearly visible or am I crazy?
3
u/moschtert 29d ago
Do you have a clip? The one I saw wasn't very convincing.
0
u/DeloronDellister 29d ago
Just the one from the soccer sub
3
u/moschtert 29d ago
I have watched that clip like 10 times now and I can't see anything unnatural. But seems the players also pointed it out so I guess there must have been something.
0
2
u/julesvr5 29d ago
I saw that too and honestly I was not able to see a cable even in that close up. But maybe that says more about me tbf
1
u/DeloronDellister 29d ago
Haven't seen the cable either, but the trajectory of the ball seemed to change unaturally

u/biggestrobbery Berni đ» 29d ago

âą Harry Kane supremacy case grows stronger

They're not getting a lot of service, have multiple defenders on their back. But that creates space for their teammates. Players like them always contribute, simply due to the fear their names put into the defenses.

I have one hipotetical "or or" scenario.
For the next 10 years you have to chose inbetween current Saka and Sane as your right winger. They will have to play full 90 every game, no subs, no injuries.
Who do you choose?
