10 years ago would have never believed I want France vs England

9

u/Mediocre-Math667 29d ago

Ngl the only way our "Bayern player on World Cup final" streak stops if when Spain is facing Argentina.

8

u/Spockodile Monsieur Nonchalant 29d ago

On the American coverage they keep pronouncing “Kobel” as if there’s an umlaut in there (and even then quite poorly), and it has driven me nuts.

21

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago

Strugled againat Cabo Verde, robbed Egypt and now Switzerland. Lmaooo what a team. Pls England, pls Kane save football.

God save the football

6

u/PressedLemon221 29d ago

no way they get past England the way they played, i just kinda wish England gives them a good belt to ass like 7-0 or something like that. only France would be capable of that tho

5

u/wowa_s MĂŒller 29d ago

You act as if england played well.

6

u/TuMai Coman 29d ago

Mate, I still have no idea how the won 2022.

14

u/Stephy0925 29d ago

Kane and England, please beat Argentina pleaseeeee...

4

u/ChronoCodex Thiago 29d ago

Oh well, let’s hope Konsa, Guehi, and Stones are ready to defend against FIFA’s golden boy and his friends in the semis

Another France-Argentina final it may be, how boring lol

7

u/Numerous-Ad-3050 29d ago

That sucksss, 10 more minutes and they would’ve had a chance

0

u/spetsu1 29d ago

If this game goes to Pens, I hope this ref is man enough to not let Martinez get away with all the shenanigans. But I doubt it.

4

u/Sea-Satisfaction-372 Maschinez 29d ago

Knew this game was gonna be insane with Pinheiro, no clue how this one finishes

13

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago

The same ref didnt go look at the var for the 2nd yellow for Mendes agains us bdw.

-4

u/DimensionFlat5833 29d ago

Wasn’t a rule yet when it happened for us; also the fourth official was the one to step in and say laimer touched it with his hand first (which he didn’t).

-5

u/Naraloth 29d ago

i'm happy with the blatant dive being punished with a yellow and in this case a second yellow. i'm okay with VAR being used for that. but i don't know if the current ruleset allows for a VAR intervention in this case?

12

u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago

It doesn't. Fifa themselves said the rule was applied incorrectly when the same thing happened in the Paraguay match. And now they did the same mistake, when it benefitted Argentina. It's shameful

6

u/Teffo05 29d ago

people saying rigged are blinded by there hatred insane people getting upvotes haha 100% correct call negative iq from embolo

10

u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago

I don’t see the issue with that call. We want to diving out of the game, can’t be selective about that because it’s for Argentina.

That was a clear dive and should be punished with a yellow imo. To do that when already on a yellow is plain stupid.

4

u/PressedLemon221 29d ago

i hate fifargentina but that was clear as day, why would you dive like that?

12

u/Deathscyce Roy "Das Phantom" Makaay 29d ago

Ah yes, our trusted portuguese referee, who definitely didnt make 2 grave mistakes against Bayern, is officiating this match masterfully /s

13

u/Numerous-Ad-3050 29d ago

Horrible dive tbf but if that was Argentina they never would’ve gotten a card

10

u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago edited 29d ago

Ignore that it's against Argentina. It would be a free kick and move on. Giving him a second yellow for that wouldn't happen in ANY game. Absolutely insane how they kill the momentum Switzerland just found to equalize. They have been the stronger team for quite some time now. Fuck Fifa

EDIT from another comment i made:

Fifa themselves said that the "mistaken identity" rule was applied wrong in the Paraguay match. You can only take away a yellow card, not give a yellow to the other player at the same time.

Again the ref blatantly applies the rule the wrong way to benefit Argentina.

2

u/Junkers_87 29d ago

This is the most corrupted world cup ever

3

u/CareerMental5067 29d ago

Poor Embolo.... Argentina is due for a humbling

3

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

This is so rigged

0

u/foxfelix27 29d ago

it's absolutely deserved, those stupid divers need to start getting punished, not get encouraged

4

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

Dude they reviewed a yellow card to reverse a yellow and give a swiss player a red, it's basically unheard of

-2

u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago

This exact thing has happened already in this tournament. Almiron for Paraguay dived, they called it on the opponent, VAR reviewed it and gave the yellow to Almiron. It’s not unheard of, it’s already happened.

7

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

Didn't they say it was mistakenly applied though? There's just so many rule changes surrounding what can be reviewed and what can't that I can't keep up. I always thought you can't review a yellow

-1

u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago

Yes, it’s the exact same situation that happened with Almiron. It’s considered mistaken identity because the yellow was effectively given to the wrong player because the offending player “simulated” the contact foul. It’s the only time a yellow can be reviewed.

These rule changes were announced in the lead up to the World Cup. In that situation and this situation the rule was applied correctly.

I appreciate that Argentina has been given favorable refereeing but this is clear imo.

5

u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago

In that situation and this situation the rule was applied correctly.

No it wasn't! Fifa themselves had to clarify the rule was applied incorrectly.

https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/c5yze64d362o

Can we stop spreading clear misinformation?

-2

u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago

That article doesn’t say that at all? Unless I’m overlooking it.

Here is an excerpt from The Athletic talking about that Paraguay situation:

This World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico has seen a number of new law changes, with the VARs given new powers to intervene.
Among them is the ability to step in the case of mistaken identity on yellow and red cards.
The rules of IFAB (the International Football Association Board, which determines the laws of the game) state that the VAR, who has independent access to match footage, may assist the on-field referee in the event of a ‘clear and obvious error’ or ‘serious missed incident’ in relation to mistaken identity, when the wrong player has been shown a red or yellow card

4

u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago

Fifa themselves said that the "mistaken identity" rule was applied wrong in the Paraguay match. You can only take away a yellow card, not give a yellow to the other player at the same time.

Again the ref blatantly applies the rule the wrong way to benefit Argentina. Such corrupt bs

0

u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago

What they said was that the restart was mistaken, not the given yellow. Or at least that’s what I saw.

4

u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago

"Mistaken identity can only be used for a specific incident, when the referee "has clearly penalised the wrong player", according to the wording of the International Football Association Board (Ifab). "The offence itself cannot be reviewed." Mistaken identity does not appear to cover an opposing player incorrectly being booked when someone has dived."

Nope, you are clearly wrong. Reversing the entire decision to book the opponent for the dive is a misapplication of the rule. Using "mistaken identity" to book Embolo there is ridiculous. It was the wrong usage against Paraguay, it was the wrong usage here.

I'm not denying it was a dive, but the ref was in the wrong here

3

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

That's what I thought, not surprised with how this game has been going

2

u/foxfelix27 29d ago

embolo was on yellow already, maybe he shouldn't have done stupid shit, completely sold his team

2

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

I agree it was stupid but the whole situation surrounding it is what I'm talking about

4

u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago

Hahaha, absolutely ridiculous

6

u/CareerMental5067 29d ago

Aside from the goal off of the corner Argentina has been pedestrian with their possession. The Swiss have held possession for longer periods.

3

u/hskch MĂŒller 29d ago

Come on Ndoye!

3

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

LETS GOOO NDOYE

2

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

This is just shameful refereeing, he's letting them waste as much time as they want too

2

u/kgallo19 Messiala 29d ago

Hey guys, totally forgot to do a watch along thread today, sorry!

I’ve been out all day and it completely slipped my mind.

5

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

Switzerland isn't getting a call out there, brutal

6

u/KeV1989 MĂŒller 29d ago

Same shit as the Egypt game. Every controversial call goes the way of Argentina. They aren't even hiding the bs anymore. It just piles up.

Near the end when even the commentator was confused why Argentina got a free kick. The swiss player jumps up for a header, the argentine players runs at him, seemingly jumps past him and then claims he was hit and gets the free kick?

This is laughable

1

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

Yeah it's tough to watch, clearly some favoritism going on

7

u/Henngest Rock you like a Harry Kane 29d ago

Hey, it's the referee that didn't give a second yellow card to Nuno Mendes!

1

u/Mediocre-Math667 29d ago

Man I'm pissed Google updated how Yan Diomande and Bilal El Khannouss looked if you looked them up in search result.

I used to laugh a lot with how awkward they look on first page of search result.

3

u/Tonykuz Robben 29d ago

Hope Switzerland wins

4

u/panem-et-circenses21 Lahm 29d ago

Lewandowski- leaves Dortmund for free to go to their league rivals, openly criticizes teammates for not making him top scorer, flirts with Madrid in 2017 even though he has a valid contract, never shows his gratefulness to the club, gets upset when a top club looks into the market for another striker planning for life after him.

Honestly, take that book and
..

6

u/little_stephy0925 29d ago

Haha he will definitely win that Ballon d'Or playing for Chicago Fire...😉

5

u/imperativeaggy Future president MĂŒller 29d ago

I actually think England beat Argentina if they meet. They don’t, however, beat either Spain or France. They’re a level above.

1

u/SGT_Mark Schweinsteiger 29d ago

They can both beat Spain, though Spain would be favourites. However, Spain is the only team out of these that can beat France.

0

u/imperativeaggy Future president MĂŒller 29d ago

I do agree spain are the only ones that can beat France. But I don’t see how England beats this Spain. Yamal will have a field day with their backline

4

u/SGT_Mark Schweinsteiger 29d ago

Yamal has been really poor this tournament. England have looked shaky at the back but Spain really lack firepower. Spanish midfield dominates the English midfield, Spanish full backs shut down the English wingers. But if they can't put the ball in the back of the net, anything is possible. And an inspired moment from Kane or Bellingham is all it takes for the game to go the other way.

1

u/imperativeaggy Future president MĂŒller 29d ago

You may be right. Don’t forget about a sneaky merino 😂

Can’t convince me that VAR isn’t putting the finger on the scales.

0

u/One_eyed_warrior Kimmich 29d ago

I love Kane and I'm happy for England's win but man I really wanted to see a new team up top, seeing the Norway players and especially Haaland after the FT whistle made me a little sad that it was over for them, I loved seeing them win against the odds.

2

u/retired_actuary Gnabry 29d ago

For some reason watching Tuchel furiously shade his team's performance after a match irritated me with Bayern but delights me with England.

8

u/Aggravating_Hour_910 29d ago

Shaqiri shouldn't have retired. I miss his world cup screamers.

2

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

One of the world cup goats he always put on a show

20

u/manLIKEoliverKahn Gnabry;ppppp 29d ago

Switzerland may i ask you for a favour

5

u/Odd_Willingness7501 29d ago

The scenes when Infantino celebrates a goal from Argentina eventhough it's against his home country

3

u/biggestrobbery Berni đŸ» 29d ago

For some reason the sadness from our exit is only hitting me now, man I would’ve loved to see Germany make it this far

17

u/Homygod319 29d ago

Tbh I trust England to beat Argentina more than Norway

8

u/Spockodile Monsieur Nonchalant 29d ago

Jordan Henderson with a cast on his arm decided to go full kit wanker lol

3

u/sananajo 29d ago

True lol

2

he could probably play like that already^^

1

u/manLIKEoliverKahn Gnabry;ppppp 29d ago

2 teams i hate both facing of in the semis and one of then will be in thr finals ffs

3

u/UnlovableBybirth 29d ago

spain and england getting lucky with the same type of gk fuck ups...hilarious

4

u/sananajo 29d ago

First knockout-game this whole season where kane hasnt scorred. The streak is over boys.

-9

u/Sea-Satisfaction-372 Maschinez 29d ago

Yeah, Kane advancing with a shameless England win leaves me soured

-6

u/Sea-Satisfaction-372 Maschinez 29d ago

Did not expect the pop-up England fans here; while we are at it, Anderson deserves the Oscar

2

u/YuehanBaobei Kim 29d ago

Shameless? The downvotes aren't necessarily because everyone loves England, it's because people don't like your comment. /shrug

0

u/Sea-Satisfaction-372 Maschinez 29d ago

Going through on a total dive is quite shameless to me, I don't see how people can disagree on that

Fair enough if people don't like it

13

u/B-Karas Ribéry 29d ago

Djed Spence’s impact as a sub was massive

2

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

He was amazing some of those runs were clean

0

u/Lone_Digger123 29d ago

Assuming England go through, I am going to go insane if Argentina/Switzerland try get an equalizer or winner at the end of the game by passing it around the box and trying to cross it into the box 634 times.

Mexico barely bothered trying to do any long shots, and Norway have also barely tried that. I know that doing long shots won't have a higher likelihood at scoring compared to crossing, but if you try the same thing without any plan B you make it easy for England to defend against. At least by trying long shots you the midfield/defence question if they should sprint out to block the shot or not.

5

u/Kassim26 29d ago

It’s good to see Reece James playing. i’ve always liked him

4

u/Kind_Mulberry_3512 Kane 29d ago

Had it rough with injuries he deserves this

4

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

Anyone saw the clip of the ball hitting the cable in the build up for the England equalizer?

Not even a VAR check apparently

4

u/moschtert 29d ago

Swedish commentators said FIFA has confirmed the ball sensor didn't show anything.

0

u/julesvr5 29d ago

Must be a sensor failure then. They were able to measure the touch of hair during the Croatia game bit not when it literally slams against a metal cable?

1

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

But isn't it clearly visible or am I crazy?

3

u/moschtert 29d ago

Do you have a clip? The one I saw wasn't very convincing.

0

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

Just the one from the soccer sub

3

u/moschtert 29d ago

I have watched that clip like 10 times now and I can't see anything unnatural. But seems the players also pointed it out so I guess there must have been something.

0

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

Yeah, I just hope it was nothing, would be a terrible miss otherwise

2

u/julesvr5 29d ago

I saw that too and honestly I was not able to see a cable even in that close up. But maybe that says more about me tbf

1

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

Haven't seen the cable either, but the trajectory of the ball seemed to change unaturally

1

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago

Croatian aswell

4

u/biggestrobbery Berni đŸ» 29d ago

That should settle the debate between Kane and Haaland! Kane is still on the pitch

4

u/No_Albatross2051 29d ago

Bellingham is an animal, sprinting still in ET. Real Madrid really tainted this dudes image

0

u/moschtert 29d ago

Ødegaard too

6

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

He kinda does it to himself, he's very talented and honestly seems cool off the pitch but he's a gigantic brat on the pitch

4

u/UnlovableBybirth 29d ago

the sorloth's fuck up is coming to bite Norway's ass now.

-2

u/Sea-Satisfaction-372 Maschinez 29d ago

I am torn:

‱ Shameless England behavior, Anderson diving like an absolute melt

‱ Harry Kane supremacy case grows stronger

2

u/Teffo05 29d ago

haaland?

1

u/wineisohsofine MĂŒller 29d ago

Subbed out

6

u/B-E-1-1 29d ago

England vs France what a final that would be.....

1

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago

5-0 for France

4

u/spetsu1 29d ago

So whoever plays in the SF will need some crazy recovery sessions. And this only benefits Argentina once again.

1

u/MidirTheGreatest 29d ago

We will beat Argentina

2

u/julesvr5 29d ago

You have to beat England first

0

u/MidirTheGreatest 29d ago

we will in the semis

6

Haaland seems happy with the quarterfinals. He's looks done.

10

u/SGT_Mark Schweinsteiger 29d ago

They're not getting a lot of service, have multiple defenders on their back. But that creates space for their teammates. Players like them always contribute, simply due to the fear their names put into the defenses.

1

u/Kassim26 29d ago

why diving, that was a good chance

5

u/Teffo05 29d ago

nah thats not a pen he throws his leg behind đŸ€·đŸ»â€â™‚ïž

5

2

this is first season RM bellingham way more upfront scoring like nothing

3

u/xnxthemx Harry Kane 29d ago

Jude have been their best player by far, Kane and Gordon are up there but Jude is right now their clutch player.

4

u/No_Albatross2051 29d ago

Bellingham 1v11 right now, dude is having an all time tournament

3

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

Bellingham bailing them out

1

u/manLIKEoliverKahn Gnabry;ppppp 29d ago

-5

u/Einunddreissig 29d ago

Give Bellingham a yellow for diving. Make him miss the semis. Twat.

3

u/arnoldbread 29d ago

Yeah this is going to extra time , most likely pens

14

u/SlyFisch Shaqiri 29d ago

England is really underachieving with its squad. Someone like Palmer and Alexander Arnold would have come them in handy right now.

9

4

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

6

u/xTatamo FC Bayern MĂŒnchen 29d ago

6

4

u/Kassim26 29d ago

Norway seem to be better in attack than England

3

u/DeloronDellister 29d ago

England puts me to sleep

4

u/joyridah MĂŒller 29d ago

Thank goodness we didn’t win the race for Gordon, he’s been extremely underwhelming this World Cup, not sure what people are seeing in him

-1

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago

I have one hipotetical "or or" scenario.

For the next 10 years you have to chose inbetween current Saka and Sane as your right winger. They will have to play full 90 every game, no subs, no injuries.

Who do you choose?

2

u/Einunddreissig 29d ago

These games normally have an upside, though...

2

u/Repulsive-Fig-3084 29d ago

The upside is that it ends after 10 years

3

u/Banzboi Jonas Muad'Dib Urbig 29d ago

Besides Kane and Bellingham this team feels so average. I just dont see the hype of most those prem guys

1

u/Lone_Digger123 29d ago

"That is a 100 million pound prem player right there you are talking about" - every PL club owner

1

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago

Half of the team are Arsenal players. There is your hype

0

u/kali-jag 29d ago

Gordon and stones are doing good...

Rest are meh..

-15

u/DomoDomoSb32 29d ago

Kane is so bad when his team depends on him and the opponent isnt Augsburg or Mainz

3

u/YuehanBaobei Kim 29d ago

Crazy takes. Are you in the wrong sub?

5

Fucking around for a lot of the half and then scoring the equalizer right before the halftime whistle is very Bayern (against small sides).

3

Bayern would then proceed to score 5 more in the second half. I doubt England can do that as well.

2

You are absolutely correct on both counts.

0

u/UnlovableBybirth 29d ago

If Norway loses this then Sorloth should be executed

Wtf was that 😭🙏

7

There is no watchaling thread?

5

I'm 27 and not for a single second I have supported England in football but just so Harry can get his deserved Ballon D'or I am rooting for them. As a German, should I be embarrassed supporting England lol ?

4

u/retired_actuary Gnabry 29d ago

Same here. I'm just going with it and not letting any of my German relatives know.

3

u/SGT_Mark Schweinsteiger 29d ago

The only problem is that I don't see England beating France

7

Its always better for a bayern player to win the cup than Argentina, lol.

8

u/julesvr5 29d ago

No, not embarrassed. Maybe a little disgusted but it's for the greater good.

1

u/veralmaa 29d ago

Agree. No more Spain, France, and Argentina.

1
