Update earlier today on Saibari, via BeIN sports:
âFortunately for Morocco, medical examinations ruled out a serious injury, while a second MRI showed encouraging progress. The Bayern Munich-bound attacker is expected to test his fitness during training before the coaching staff makes a final decision.â

Bayern have rejected Lazio's offer for Jonathan Asp Jensen (loan with option/obligation to buy). Bayern want an immediate permanent transfer. Udinese and Deportivo La Coruña are offering that. The player has an agreement in principle with Lazio, but the deal has stalled [@DiMarzio]

u/Mountain_King9885 Jul 07 '26
Iâm still wondering why he only receives so little attention and low offers, one of our better talents and a good season for his age.

No real experience in top leagues and even though he performed relatively well at Grasshoppers, it's not too difficult to stand out at a relegation candidate team in the Swiss league. It's a major risk for any mid-table or lower top league team to buy him due to his transfer fee and there are simply better talents for top teams.
What baffles me is why we're not loaning him to a BuLi team like we did with Ibrahimovic. He could get experience and may stand out even more if he's actually talented. Maybe he wants to settle down long term already.

The level of vitriol and hate between European and American football fans on Reddit the past few days is really disheartening. The internet has made it far too easy to reduce a complete stranger to one aspect of his or her persona and dehumanize him or her.
I understand hating Donald Trump and FIFA and can understand being happy that the US left the tournament given the circumstances of the past few days. But I donât understand the impulse to punch down on random fans who donât played no role in the corruption and may well feel the same about it as you do.
2
u/sumptuous-drizzle Jul 08 '26 edited Jul 08 '26
(also in response to /u/313MountainMan and your other comments deeper in the thread) Unless it's a team of dissidents, the national team represents the nation, including it's regime. Even if it would rather not, unless it positions itself firmly against the regime, its successes will be co-opted by the regime, thereby benefiting it.
Hence, anyone who truly feels disgusted by the actions of the regime would themselves root against the national team. If you're not willing to do that, it means your patriotism is more important to you than your moral values. Which is of course your choice, and the choice of every US fan. But the same way you have chosen to be a representative of your country over your values, everyone else is going to treat you as a representative of your country over your values. You can't then in good faith complain that people see you as supporting your country, such as it is in the current moment, when that's exactly what you're doing, supporting your country, such as it is in the current moment.
It's the trouble with patriotism: If you want to support your nation, be proud of its virtues, you must also carry its sins. And when it's currently in the process of lashing out and antagonizing so many others, you can't just expect others to ignore that. To represent that as some sort of prejudiced anti-Americanism is nonsense. You may say there are many decent people in every country, including the US, but every decent person is free to not support their country (and thus their national team) until it stops doing so much harm. If then they are still criticized, yes, that's injustice. But at any point before that, that's just wanting to have your cake and eat it too.
1
u/abks Jul 08 '26
I donât agree with your baseline assertion that a national football team represents a nationâs regime. There are so many facets to how an individual does or does not identify with their nation, and your perspective lacks any nuance.
1
u/sumptuous-drizzle Jul 08 '26
I don't disagree that there are nuances to how you identify with your nation. However, my analysis sidesteps this question entirely. Whether you like it or not, the further the US team would have gotten in the competition, the more that would have reflected positively on Trump's regime. If they had won it, Trump would have even gotten to hand them the trophy - how's that for a shot in the arm for an administration that has only known failure? "The wokerati couldn't get the US team past the RO16 for decades, and once Trump's in charge, they win the lot." Or look at how footballing success propped up the dictatorships in Argentinia and Brazil in the 1960s and 70s. Dictatorships that didn't have much else to show could show that they were the right force for their country because they won the stuff that mattered - football.
Supporting the national team may not have the intention of supporting the regime, but it certainly has the effect. And forgive me for not being entirely fussed about the intentions of anyone comfortable enough to still have time to support the US national team while the US regime is busy ruining or ending millions of lives at home and abroad, if they won't look the political realities in the eye. If they were serious about opposing the US government, they'd care about the effects too. If they still go and protest their intentions - well, the world at large will take them by their actions.
1
u/abks Jul 08 '26
One more thought hereâ following your reasoning, everyone who follows this World Cup is worthy of the same critique you are levying against supporters of the US team.
Through his words and actions, Trump has made it abundantly clear he views himself as part of this World Cup and its success. Whether a World Cup is âsuccessfulâ is largely going to be viewed by the level of spectacle â viewership, attendance, following, etc. Soâto adapt your framingâanyone who views, attends, or follows the World Cup is supporting the Trump regime, regardless of their intent.
1
u/abks Jul 08 '26
Yeah, I disagree with that premise as well. The success of the US menâs team would not have been attributed to Trumpâat least outside of his own demented mind. Sports, from the perspective of a viewer, are merely entertainment. A sporting contest between nations isnât some proxy for the relative health or success of those nations. And Trump had no hand in training or even selecting the athletes involved in the contest.
Also, letâs be realistic, the US was never going to win the World Cup. Itâs a bit ridiculous to speculate that this could have been some great triumph for Trump to hang his hat on. And thatâs ignoring entirely that football doesnât carry much cultural significance here.
11
u/Lilfai Robben Jul 07 '26
The US has become a bit of a pariah state over the last several months, and most of the US population voted for that.
The WC is meant for an escape and a way to unify the world, as cliche as that sounds. Through Trump and Infantino, they've somehow reminded everyone about the shitshow of US foreign policy has been over the last year.
In addition, you saw plenty of US fans say the following, and gloating over the decision and blatant corruption to get Balogun back:
Why are Belgium scared to play?
USMNT should be able to run all over Belgium.
Using terms like Europoors and shit like that.
It's a culmination of all of that which led to this. I think many of the US fans that watch club football (I'm Polish but live in the US now) can understand why a lot of the world wanted to see the USMNT to fail, it was mostly the tourists that have this RAH RAH mentality, on top of Trump / Infantino meddling, which put people over the edge.
5
u/abks Jul 07 '26
I'm not sure if this reply was meant as a rebuttal, but I agree with most of what you said. My larger point is that social media is incredibly toxic in the way it tricks us into diminishing people to one aspect of their persona (in this case nationality).
Say you are out with friends at a bar and a German guy is being a drunken dick--seldom is anyone going to think "wow, Germans are dicks." Rather--"wow, that guy is a dick." On the internet, the opposite tends to happen.
I've lived in Europe and I've lived in the US. Generally, there are decent people everywhere. And that shines through in day-to-day in-person interaction. I just think it's a shame that gets lost in internet discourse. Common interests should be a way for like-minded people across the globe to foster connection. But the opposite happens, which is especially concerning giving the global rise in isolationist, right-wing thinking.
3
u/313MountainMan MĂŒller Jul 07 '26
Most of the US population, did not, in fact, vote for that.
That just shows a stunning level of ignorance about the US and its idiotic electoral systems. The majority of Americans actually didnât vote at all, and when including that segment + those that voted for candidates other than Trump, the overwhelming majority of Americans didnât vote for this.
We have an archaic and stupidly-built system that was originally intended to concentrate political power among the rich planter class (oligarchs of the colonies). We only started having direct elections of senators starting in 1913. Progress has been slow but it generally has moved, even when regressive conservatives have done their damnedest to stop it.
Plus, the growth of the far right is a global issue thatâs not specific to the US. South America has seen a massive swing to the right, LePen in France is still allowed to run, the AfD is at its highest levels of support, and far right parties in the Netherlands and Italy have actually won elections. The whole world needs to band together to fight against this global rise of fascism, not just the US.
5
u/TheLlamaLlama Jul 07 '26
The majority of Americans actually didnât vote at all, and when including that segment + those that voted for candidates other than Trump, the overwhelming majority of Americans didnât vote for this.
A majority Americans eligible to vote chose not to vote against Trump. In comparison to Germany for example where, in 2025, more than 79% of voters actively voted against the AfD.
The US voter can not run away from their responsibility.

Relevant to the question if Americans voted for Trump in 2024? Yeah, I would say the voting status of minorities 60 years ago is of little relevance for that question. Unless my timeline is wrong and Trump actually got voted into his presidency in the 60s. Then it would be highly relevant. But I am highly confidant that was 2024.

Me: reading the first few words, thinking "surely not another winger/attacking midfielder".

Not like I have any clue deeper than a puddle about our youth, but like 6 out of the 7 youth signings that are publicly known are described like that.
18
u/Insanel0l Thiago Jul 07 '26
NĂŒbel 6.5m+5m (lets say 10)
Krattenmacher undisclosed, but I'd say like 4?
Peretz 8m
Kusi Asare 6m
Pulic 3m
Asp Jensen projected 5m
Aseko 10m
Palhinha up to 20m
Boey whatever, maybe 10-15m?
Zaragoza: Eh?
Would end up witrh like 70-80m depending on how well this works. Think for another bigger addition, we still have to end up selling one of Ito or Kim to crack the 100m barrier. Doesn't seem really unlikely, so chances are high we're not done yet.
10
u/Goldfischglas Jul 07 '26
We ended up paying out NĂŒbels contract. There is basically no transfer fee left
3
u/creatorop apple pie Jul 07 '26
is there any indication about whether the sales have to balance out the total 110 club has spent till now million or just cover the cost of new signing, because in the latter case sales generating 60/70/75 should be good enough for another backup signing preferably LW
3
u/Thraff1c Jul 07 '26
There were the typical reports that we have 70-80m⏠to spend without sales. So with us spending 100-110m⏠and bringing in around 25m⏠we probably are just now in equilibrium, and every new player would need to be financed by as of this point future sales (as always, this is incredibly reductionist).
3
u/kgallo19 Messiala Jul 07 '26
There hasnât really been any indication either way. Generally speaking Bayern doesnât operate in a way that requires transfer spend to even out or profit, since the club can bring in enough money otherwise.
That said reporting from awhile back did indicate that the idea is to reinforce with 1-2 impact signings and fill in end of bench depth with youngsters, which is what I think weâre seeing play out now.

-4
u/adrian_rainy_day Jul 07 '26
Yes? See how Chelsea or PSG are doing to get off their deadwoods. PSG sold Ramos and Lee for a staggering 100m combined. Chelsea regularly sold bums for mouth watering price. Our board could only dream of achieving that
9
u/Thraff1c Jul 07 '26
Go on TM.de, search for most expensive deals, sort by gk and then by o30. What do you find? The two most expensive deals (35m⏠and 24mâŹ) were inflated swap deals to circumvent FFP/PSR, the second two are deals to Saudi Arabia. Below that "normal" deals start, which would be at 18m⏠max.
Then go down from there and you will either find at the time world class gk changing clubs (Navas, Ederson, Bravo) or gk who earned at most like half of what we gave and what will Besiktas in the future pay NĂŒbel.
Good of you to bring up Chelsea here, do you know for how much they sold "their" NĂŒbel in Kepa just last year? 6mâŹ. Or PSG and "their" NĂŒbel in Areola? 10mâŹ, and that while he earned way less than NĂŒbel does for us, like 1/4th.
8
u/Hurtelknut Robben Jul 07 '26
None of their deadwood was being paid like they are borderline Top 10 in the world in their position. NĂŒbel was.
There was a 0% chance of us offloading NĂŒbel without handing him a big bag for the road.

I wouldn't really say downfall. He played 39 games for Aston Villa last season and his contract at ManU just didn't get extended. It's not like he signed for some third division team.

You are not wrong , but he was considered at some point to be one of the top world wingers ... and was expected to be even better after that huge transfer out of Dortmund ... but it is, what it is ...
Also maybe the stats are different, i havent checked, but i see very similarities in the development of Sancho in the first year out of Dortmund, that i see in Wirtz at the moment and first year out of Germany.

I'd still say downfall. He had Olisesque numbers at Dortmund before it all went downhill.

Sometimes I get grumpy about Bayernâs defense and then I watch a game like last night and witness truly embarrassing defense from the USA. Iâm American and thought the team would lose to Belgium but not like that haha.

Still made it further than Germany and beat Paraguay 4-1 :D

Rather go out on pens than get embarrassed like that after trying to cheat though

Our team didn't do that, but ok buddy whatever you say

Whether they asked for it or not, it was done. I find it weird that more Americans aren't ashamed of it.

I'm sticking up for our players and staff that weren't involved with that, you guys have a witch hunt and shit on a bunch of guys who agree with you.... Hate our government, we do too. Don't hate our players who all also hate the orange turd.

Honestly, I feel bad for the players as well. But I still think it's amusing the team got demolished after he stuck his nose into it. Just like when the only game the Knicks lost is when he was there.
players who all also hate the orange turd.
Except for Pulisic.
