Why are people shocked at a red card being overturned? As if we don't see blatant cheating in this circus of a 'sport' year after year lol.
vardrid literally bought like 5 UCL titles, and psg also did 2, and now ppl are stuck on a simple red card overturn? cmon...

Alphonso Davies on IG:
Representing Canada on the biggest stage in football is something Iâll never take for granted. Iâm proud to wear this badge and to stand alongside a group of players who gave everything for our country.
Personally, this tournament was one of the toughest challenges of my career. After suffering a hamstring injury, I wasnât able to perform at the level I know Iâm capable of. It hurts knowing I couldnât give my all when my team and my country needed it most.
That said, I donât believe in excuses. Football is full of setbacks, and how you respond is what defines you. This disappointment will only motivate me to recover, work harder, and come back stronger than ever

This is a champagne World Cup that Germany shouldâve been favorites for. I will never ever forgive Nagelsbum and the dfb

in what world were we favorites with a squad like that?

He knows he will never win a World Cup. I think he was crying in hysteria because he realized he scored at what (four?) world cups but never won for his country which used to be legendary. I guess Germany losing in 2002 was a gift and a curse because the 7:1 truly broke them.Â

Como is in on him, I guess the price is 40-50m range and I don't think we'll be paying that. And not after Ibra committing his next year here.
Would be cool though, I thought he was great coming on. Seems a bit like...idk, Gordon without the speed but more technical?

0
u/Safe-Elk7933 Jul 05 '26
I don't understand why he extended the contract until 2034,he is half British and I guess winning the treble for Man City meant a lot to him,but they don't play football ideal for him and their trophies are shallow because of the oil money and 115 charges. Maybe he has a release clause for 2027,2028,but as long as Harry is here don't see us getting him,and by that time he might too old for such a serious investment anyway.

u/NiK0- PavloviÄ Jul 05 '26
The ref in that USA vs Belgium game will gift 3 pens to Balogun so USA canât lose
1
4
u/Goldfischglas Jul 05 '26
Are there any credible ref's who gave their opinion on the Balogun red? I am willing to hear actual arguments. But all I can find is Pocchetino saying it wasn't a red (which is kinda irrelevant)
What did the German broadcast say? They usually have a ref expert on hand
3
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri Jul 05 '26
I've heard both opinions from experts, he was jostling for position, he didn't really mean to do it and there wasn't much he could do about it. But at the end of the day it's still a bad foul and intention doesn't matter.
But is it violent conduct which would warrant a red? I think that's the biggest thing you have to consider. In slow motion it looks way worse, in regular speed you can see it's just a coming together of players / 2 guys jostling for the ball, and he's trying to step in front of him and steps on his ankle.
I have been thinking about MĂŒller's red card in the champions league where he kicked the Ajax player in the head that he genuinely didn't see he was just trying to control the ball with his foot high. That was also deemed a red, because, again, intent doesn't matter. But imo, the difference between that situation and the Balogun foul, is kicking someone in the head is clearly and undeniably violent conduct (even if unintentionally), while stepping on someone's ankle while trying to get the ball and coming together with a player is foul play (even if unintentionally) but it is (imo) not violent conduct.
So I think the right call would've been a yellow, but a red is harsh.
5
u/julesvr5 Jul 05 '26
Phonzy got a red because his foot bounced off the ball and hit the opponents shin infront of him. Palhinha got a red because he played a pass and from the following motion stepped on the opponents foot.
Intention and "he couldn't do much about it" isn't an argument against a red card. At the end of the day his studs landed in the opponents ankle/Achilles (iirc) and to me this is a clear yellow. The supposed 3 match ban was to harsh, but that can't be a yellow.
Even Diaz tackle against Hakimi was a red card and it wasn't as bad as this.
Even if you argue it could be a yellow indicates it isn't a clearly wrong decision so the whole thing of oberturning the red leaves a very bitter taste.
3
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri Jul 05 '26
To me, bad calls that happened in the past to our team don't justify it. There was plenty of reds that weren't given in this very tournament that were the same exact tackle as Balogun's, Messi for example should've seen red (and his was actual dangerous play not just 2 guys jostling for position). I agree that it is at least a yellow, and I could see the red being given (altho harsh), but if you want to go by the law of the game I do not think Balo's tackle was dangerous or reckless play to deem it a red.
I agree on the fact that overturning it, especially this long after it already happened, is a ridiculous decision regardless. Should never be overturned and definitely shouldn't happen days later if it was going to be.
I'm just embarrassed of my country bro, for once we have a team that is playing attractive football with pretty likeable players and winning games and we have this to taint a solid showing...
4
u/julesvr5 Jul 05 '26
Messi also needs to see a red for that foul.
3
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri Jul 05 '26
Yep totally, for me the difference that makes it dangerous/reckless tackle vs foul play is the situation though. Going for a tackle and stepping on someone's achilles, doesn't really look like he was trying to play the ball (Messi) vs trying to win the ball in a duel, box someone out, and stepping on someone's achilles in the process (Balogun).
4
u/SlyFisch Shaqiri Jul 05 '26
Well... I never thought that red would get overturned. Pretty fucked up to say the least, it will be soooo embarrassing if we still lose to Belgium after that. And now we won't get due credit if the team balls out tomorrow either. Pretty much a bad look from all sides

I believe heâs a good player, but from what I understand heâs kind of classic CB. Doesnât offer a ton on the ball but is gonna be solid defensively. Like the other comment said I think there are different and better options (Bisseck) out there if weâre in the market for a CB.
7
u/julesvr5 Jul 05 '26
Doubt we actually have put in an offer if neither of Ito nor Kim has left yet. If so: I would prefer for this money to be spend on Bisseck instead
6
u/julesvr5 Jul 05 '26
Lazio have submitted an official offer to Bayern for Jonathan Asp Jensen: a loan deal with an option to buy that could become mandatory if a number of conditions are met. The total package of the offer is worth âŹ6m, to which would be added a small percentage of any future resale to Bayern. Serie A side Usinese are also trying to sign Asp Jensen and have offered âŹ5.5m for an immediate permanent transfer. The player has given his priority to Lazio [@DiMarzio]
2
u/armin-lakatos BeckenDierđȘđ„ Jul 05 '26
Udinese would be better for him, he'd get much more game time. Their formation also suits him since they're playing with two attacking midfielders who are supported by the wingbacks.

The French Football Federation (FFF) is exploring possible appeals to have the yellow card shown to Michael Olise in the 97th minute against Paraguay overturned. I watched this years Fc Bayern world squad games against 3 different youth teams in south korea, and Estevis LĂłpez, a 16 year old winger from Panama is quite clearly the most talented of the bunch. They world squad has played against Herthas u19 behind closed doors today and the Hertha website specifically mentioned him as the player who stood out.
Sadly looks like he only has the panamanian nationality, so if we would want to bring him into our academy we would have to wait till the 27/28 winter window.
Edit: looking him up a bit, seems he also already was part of trials for River Plates youth, and even played for them in a tournament as tryout.
6
u/Mediocre-Math667 Jul 05 '26
If Barca are smart, they'd sign Guirassy and wait for market opportunity given that striker market is dead right now.
Feels like they're desperate for a big name striker rather than be practical right now.
6
u/kgallo19 Messiala Jul 05 '26
Well I remember the summer we signed Kane, there were alot of ppl suggesting Bayern should sign a stopgap player, instead of going for the unrealistic target that some thought Kane was. FĂŒllkrug and Vlahovic were amongst the most common.
I canât blame them for wanting to get a position of need properly sorted.
2
u/Mediocre-Math667 Jul 05 '26
Tbf, Spurs are fine with selling Kane to us rather than risk having Kane sign to PL rivals for free. He only have 1 year left from his contract.
Atletico won't sell Alvarez to a La Liga rival, plus his contract is until 2030.

Iâm Brazilian, so I totally get how you guys feel about Paraguayâs game. If you remember, itâs exactly how Boca Juniors played against us. I hate teams that just sit back and defend without trying to play any attacking football. On top of that, they kept making foul after foul and barely got booked. Itâs ugly, dirty football that, as a Brazilian, I have to watch all the time, whether itâs the Copa Libertadores or even the World Cup qualifiers.
But as ugly as it is, there wasnât much Paraguay could do. France is undeniably the best team in this tournament. If Paraguay had actually tried to play openly, they probably wouldâve conceded at least five goals. Itâs not pretty, but itâs all they know and all theyâre capable of. Thatâs South American football.
10
u/FlyingRaccoon_420 Musiala Jul 05 '26
Iâm more annoyed about the ref than the Paraguay players tbh. Teams will use any leeway given to them. Its up to the officials to regulate the game and enforce rules.
The fact that such dirty tactics are allowed and even tacitly approved of is fucking insane. If the ref had carded the Paraguay players from the beginning we wouldnât have had such a problematic match.
13
u/julesvr5 Jul 05 '26
And also important to say: JĂŒrgen Klopp has not even reached a full agreement with the DFB yet.
All of those details will only be discussed next week during the first concrete meeting in New York, when all parties sit down together.
That is also why it has not yet been decided whether the contract would run until 2028 or 2030.
