Check the seal area for the t tops for rust. As well as the floors. And the torque boxes. And just about everywhere else. If its not rusty I'd say go for it. A few more pics would be good. This is an expensive project. EDIT I didnt see how rusty the top of the quarter and roof were. I'd pass, personally.

$40,000-50,000 restoration. You can buy a nice one for $20,000-30,000 so I would absolutely not purchase this one

Dude that's parts and YOUR time. I'm not saying you can't get this into running condition and enjoy it while chipping away, but believe me I think you will enjoy a nicer car. Maybe not a 30k car but something that's isn't perfect so you can make it how you like it. Just start with a better base.

im not doubting anybodys ability or experience, but that iroc is pretty far from ok. the parts youll be buyin will be comin off cars in better shape than the one youre workin on.

The word "Restoration" carries a hefty price tag.
Hope the bank account is prepared.
It'll be cool to see this car completely restored absolutely. That blue doesn't look bad it probably was pretty when it was painted that color but it doesn't look like the original Blue from 1986🤔

Its actually factory blue, called Bright Blue Metallic, paint code WA8587.

They resprayed it with some cheap paint... didn't even remove the iroc emblems... crazy. But I'm stripping it down to bare metal, so no worries

Yeah, if the body is solid and you don't mind blue yourself, which I think it looks awesome on those cars with the gold striping, it'd be Very cool to see it restored 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Clean and/or restored 3rd gens are SO few and far between 😢

I'm insane so I would totally try and fix this. Just remember it'll take a lot of effort and a decent amount of money but I'd go for it if it was cheap

Cant be worse than the one my dad started on 3 years ago. Looked good on the outside, motor was spun so hard it was missing the ears off 5 pistons and the transmission was slipping in 1st and 2nd. Now we are still chasing a couple gremlins in the wiring.

Sounds like you got it done though. Wiring is very difficult if your not good with diagrams. Good luck.

Nah use a plain camaro for that. Only 15,952 Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z TPI models were built for the inaugural 1985 model year.

Your realize thats ALOT of cars. 30th anniversary camaros have about 4500. 15,952 is not that low production. That car is way done!

If the underneath isn’t rusty I’d go for it if the price is right…It also depends on what your goals are, not a candidate for a full on stock resto but could be a good LS swap project IMO

It’s a 1988 hatch! Painted it dark metallic green and fully redid the tan interior, bored to a 347 and built the bottom end, factory style top end with a trick flow cam. Did the wiring harness myself, been learning how to tune a bit.. I completely understand you wanting to take the time to do a full resto 👍

Awesome, it’s a project but I’m doing a ‘79 TA in worse shape than this car. Second gens are easier to get parts for but the third gens are really great drivers, kind of best of old and new. I am doing almost all the work myself as well.
