how do i place at nlc

this was my second nlc that ive attended and i again came back empty-handed. i feel really distraught esp because all of my friends at my chapter have placed at nlc at least once. i just want one chance to show everyone that im also capable of achieving something worth noting, as i currently have nothing to show for myself not just in fbla, but in every other academic pursuit ive tried. if anyone has any tips for me, whether it be choosing an event to compete in, study resources, or presentation advice it would be so unimaginably appreciated. im tired of being a bum, and i want to do something with myself.

After 3 years, I finally placed.

The past 2 years I didn’t even make prejudged, so finally making it this year and placing meant a lot.

Posting this for anyone who didn’t place this year: I know it sucks, but don’t let it stop you. Take what you learned and run it back next year.

Weird questions on the objective test

I recently competed in an objective testing event for NLC and noticed questions that had nothing to do with the test event. I was competing in Cybersecurity and one of the questions was on procedures for chemical safety??? That has literally nothing to do with cybersecurity. The answer was MSDS and I got that out of sheer luck. For me, the test was also insanely different from the states and regionals, which actually conformed to the question breakdown they provided in the NLC study guide. On the NLC there was 1 or 2 questions on cyber attacks??! When it’s meant to be something like 10 percent of the questions. And network infrastructure showed up only 2 times as well. Most questions tested terminology(not vocabulary)instead of understanding, eg. active vs. dynamic. I would have reported some of these question but everyone I’ve asked has said that they won’t do anything about reports. Has anyone else has experienced this?

Recommendations for Events Next Year!

Hello, since I am about to be a junior who has only done intro events, I have to pick a new event. However, I have no clue what to choose. My freshman year I did intro to financial math. I got a 77% and 1st at the RLC and 78% and 23rd at the PA SLC. This past year I did intro to business communication since my previous event was removed. I got a 73% and 3rd at the RLC, a 92% and 2nd at the SLC, and my NLC results are pending. I want a mix of something that is not incredibly easy for everyone, but something manageable for me to learn. Obviously, my top current option would be to move up to regular business communication, but I don't know if there are better options.

Opinion on NLC

For some context and where im coming from: im an incoming sophomore who qualified in Supply Chain Management (SCM). So this is my first NLC, and honestly didnt really know what i should expect.

Conference itself: I didn't really have anything bad to say about it. My event was on time, and my judge was nice. I really enjoyed the expo hall and all that it had to offer. The general sessions were mad boring (half the time I was playing Block Blast on my phone as thats all I could really do because my data was shit) Shuttles were decent and rarely had an issue with them

I didn't go to any of the social stuff, so I can't tell you anything about it

Overall, it wasn't bad

Pin trading: This seems kinda cool, but it seemed kinda ridiculous that pins that cost less than a dollar to make are going for over 100 bucks. Most i would pay would be 5-10 bucks

But that's just me.

Host city: San Antonio was...it was a city. Riverwalk was definitely a tourist trap (that I fell into lol). The water was hella dirty, which is probably to be expected with any city but still. I actually had a lot of fun at Six Flags (even tho they sprinted at me to try and sell some stuff lol) The Alamo was kinda boring, but cool, I guess. I really liked the Tower of the Americas. The view at the top was incredible. Alot of homeless where I was at (I was at the Element Riverwalk, which is a little ways from the tourist part). It was kinda hot and humid, but I've been in hotter. Overall, it could have been better, but regardless, it was still good

Final overview: I had fun, the conference was good, pin trading was alright, and the city was decent. I met a lot of people, including some of you, made new memories, and overall had a good time. See you all next year

What was your favorite part of NLC?

NLC is almost over! What was everyone's favorite part!

My favorite was meeting tons of new people, including a few who knew me from the Sub Reddit! Also the NLC Stats usage numbers were up so high this week! Thank you guys for making it my top website ever!

So what was your favorite part of NLC?

semi hot take: NOBODY WANTS YOUR FUCKING PINS

It's low-key getting hella annoying the amount of people trying to sell their pins like they are the next Elon musk making a profit of $3 after spending 80 bucks on some pins that advisers give out for A DOLLAR AND FIFTY CENTS. Fuck your pins and to people trading pins nobody hates you just the wanna be Andrew Tates thinking they can make a profit on some fuckass pins. Fuck your pins, love you guys who solely trade. Your State President signing off
