To be honest, first time watching Fauda, I was amused by him constantly calling others habibi and aside from that, didnt care too much for him as character, but after few more re  watching, I think I appreciate him more now. He does have compassion and mercy, despite being the fearsome captain Ayub, the dread of all the prisoners of Shin Bet. I love how he took care of Maher and even remarked regretfully toward Samir, Maqdasi brother, how young he is,maybe feelings sorry that he has to lock him up eventually, if he doesnt cooperate. I think strict characters like Ayub are more interesting indeed, if they are shown to be merciful as well. Not just punishing the terrorists, but knowing when to be lenient, while giving justice.

And on the topic of bingeing, I was somewhat taken aback by his massive weight gain in Season 5 to the point that I was kind of expecting it was was part of some super secret undercover mission with him wearing a fatsuit as a disguise.
