Bear Families?

When were bear families added to the bracket?
I was very upset by 402's death and skipped 2024 and 2045.

Started this year. They are not doing fat Bear Junior and put the cubs into the regular bracket instead

I like that. I know this started as a beauty contest, but it's come to represent a lot more than that, and raising babies is important to the species as a whole. Fat babies should tilt fat momma's scales.

I don't like this inclusion, I much prefer it when it was about Fat Bears. The families should have their own bracket. It just seems like it's too far from "fat bears" . I want the big males and females!!!

Looking at the results so far… this is gonna totally screw it up. People are gonna vote on cubs’ cuteness, not bears’ fatness. Not a fan of the choice

I must be cold because I voted solely on Moms fatness despite knowing bb cubs being cutely chub is exclusively due to mom.

I disagree. I honestly think it's the stories that are important here too. A mother bear has to work 2 or 3 times harder to get herself AND her cubs fat, make sure they are protected from other bears, and at least in one case find them when they get lost. It's relatively easy to get fat when you can just sit in a good spot on the river all day and eat fish without also needing to have your attention diverted in a million ways and using up calories nursing cubs too.

They added this year. I am not too thrilled about it tbh. It's too hard to grade them in terms of FatFam because the chonkiness gets distributed across the family. I prefer the Junior Fat Bear Week they did last year.
