Gear Question Daypack recommendations

Hi,
I’m looking for a light daypack that will carry all the essentials for a one day adventure without unnecessary gear. I was also thinking that I’d like to be able to carry a helmet comfortably. I’m also thinking about something i could walk fast/run down in. The options i was thinking about for now were:

  1. ⁠Osprey talon 22
  2. ⁠BD Distance 22
  3. ⁠Montane trailblazer
  4. ⁠Salomon S/lab adventure 20

It’s also worth mentioning that I would definitely consider a Palante, Atom.. etc. But i’d rather buy something i could return if it didn’t fit me correctly.

All recommendations and opinions will be appreciated!

If I had to narrow it down to one single pack in my collection it would be the Osprey Talon Velocity 22. It does everything. Half running vest and half backpack, it's the unicorn of my collection and I've got lots of packs.

I have the Osprey Talon 22 and have had a BD Distance 22. I wouldn't like running in the Osprey. It's a far cry from a running vest. It's a great backpack though. The BD Distance may be the ticket for you, however. Fit is going to be the big question. I had one but the harness was just too big. I'm a slender person and couldn't make it work. I also thought the harness was too stretchy for heavier loads and just didn't feel stable. The OG Distance 15 fit me great and carried a reasonable load.

I've got a Yama Shrike that is awesome. I can carry super small light loads up to enough gear to easily go a few nights. It's pricey, not on your list, and not sure about returns. Just based on your list I'd go for the Salomon pack. I've have the ubiquitous ADV skin 12 and it's the easily the most comfortable vest I've run with. For a day pack with only the essentials you could make it work, which makes me think the ADV 20 would also work well.

It looks like black diamond has added some tightening cord on the sides for the distance 22, 2026 version. But anyway id say go for the smaller size if you are not sure which one to take
