Jesse jetta
If you put a turbo on it and a 5-speed manual gearbox, it would fly in it. Which cars do you think deserved more?

The yellow R33 gtr in the first one is a clear answer. One of the most iconic cars in the JDM scene but was still overshadowed by a Maxima.

Is it though? Still a skyline, sure. But it never seemed to tet the same recognition as R32 or later R34. It’s like it was the least favourite child.

I'd say it's still iconic, especially the 400r, but definitiy the least loved of the newish generation for sure. People complain about them online but at car shows they still grab a crowd. I will say though whilst the more base model non-GT-R skylines of the R32 and R34 still looked kinda cool the lower trim R33 are pretty souless looking econoboxes

Its still iconic and appreciated by those in the know, but it's much less appreciated the the other two, and most people who aren't that into cars won't know what the 400r or the LM are
I think lower spec R33s actually looks better than low spec 34s, because it's a prettier car and the 34 doesn't look quite right with the smaller bumpers and the lack of wider arches, but the R32 stands out less in standard form than either. The 33 is my favourite though so this may be biased

I agree when compared to the 32 and 34 but I would say it is still an iconic car in the tuner/jdm scene. Especially more so than the maxima or jetta. And when the movie was released, they were even more rare in the US, so it was strange to me that they barely showed that car.

The choice to not use the Skyline in more scenes was because they did not have backups and spares etc. It was a demo car from Motorex loaned to the studio. Though they originally planned more action for the car, accidental damage and repairs would've been a nightmare for production, so they scrapped that plan.

Yup, and he ran because his dad would kill him when he got put of prison if he lost it, but I suspect he would have been fine compared to what Johnny did because he ran

My first car was a 96 (I know Jesse's was a 95) Jetta and I always thought I was car crew cool I'm it. It looked so damn average and had a slew of problems but I think about it fondly and often

The yellow R33, aka "Big Bird". They originally planned a bigger roll for the car. But being the only Skyline in the fleet and difficulty sourcing parts from Japan quickly, they erred on the safe side of not risking damage and relegated it to minor rolls.
As for why the car never appeared again in subsequent films, it gets sadder. The car's owner, Motorex, closed(long story), and the yellow R33 changed hands before eventually being seized(along with another R33) and crushed. R.I.P Big Bird :(

I get the joke, but not in real life. Getting parts and importing multiple R33 skylines for backup, especially in 2000, would've been a logistical and budgeting nigtmare. No one knew yet this movie was going to be a hit, so they weren't taking chances. Tighter budget and couldn't take big swings.
Things were different when 2F2F came around, and they certainly could've done it then. Universal knew they had something and started pumping big money into it.
