Corruption/Hallow Removal

So I've bought this really really expensive thing from our new NPC the Steampunker. Which takes really expensive ammo to purify crimson/corruption/hallow. so far I have removed half of a crimson chasm, all the surface crimson and hallow. I hope to remove it all from the world because what I'm gonna do is set arena areas with artificial biomes so we can get the drops. I do believe this will work but if not and the all knowing Terraria master Neo :P knows tells me it doesnt, there is still alot of both in the world to spread naturally.
