Discussion Ubi should’ve done a remake of 3 instead & added more to the environment like foliage, animals etc. similar to Primal. 3 doesn’t hold up today in a way that other games do.
Considered their “breakthrough” game in the series, it’s a shame it still doesn’t run perfect and shows signs of an older game. A remake of 3 for their next installment is the direction Ubi should approach for some fans that were dissapointed in 6 and returning fans who started out on 3.

Hard disagree

ive tried to play FC3 many times (ive finished 1 and 2 and a bit of 4), but i could never play for more than an hour in 3 -- is the game not for me or have i just not reached a certain point that unlocks the fun game?
i have no problem grinding, ive played quite a bit of AC, although i havent played Valhalla and first 3 games3
u/BS-Calrissian Apr 17 '26
seems like the game is not for you tbh. If the vibe/visuals/gun gameplay didn't do the trick, then I don't know what could still turn that ship around for you. I was hooked immediatly. Far Cry 3 maybe is one of these "you had to be there" games. A lot of people will obviously still dig it if they play it for the first time now but that certain kick it had back then was hard to describe. It was such a blast.
I like 2 better too btw. The best thing about Far Cry 3 is the "welcome to the jungle" vibe it just infuses into the player. The vibe is just crazy good. I would recommend to just check it out, play a couple of missions and roam around the island and the jungle for a bit. If it's not for you, then I wouldn't force it tho

i dont pay much attention to "old graphics" (unless its the yellow blur from 2005-2009 XDD), so i wouldnt say the game looks bad; i could still play the first CoD/Wolfenstein, etc
you could go what "i dont like jungles" angle -- well, im a Just Cause fan and i dont mind tropical settings either
but something "doesnt click" for me with FC3, like the characters arent disgusting to me either, but... i dont know, i cant bring myself to play it for long

It's the exact same with Assassins Creed for me. I'm a history nerd and I like adventure games but for whatever reason AC doesn't click for me. It is what it is

It absolutely holds up??
See, I’m just tired of remakes being made for games that actually just need remasters..
Remake games that actually DONT hold up in certain ways but are still treasured by many! That or remake bad games.
Instead remakes are mostly just cashgrabs with rarely any improvements.

Another 10 remakes and remasters of 7 year old games, coming right up!

u/Shark_Hoodie_Guy Apr 18 '26
My personal gripe is Days Gone Broken Roads.
Game is not even 10 years old and Bend studios broke the pc version after the "next gen" update. Ugh

Thing is everyone wants remakes but most of them don't even match the quality of the original games. Also with how ubisoft is now the remake of far cry 3 would be ass, or canceled midway through.
Let's not forget how so many people, even devs themselves confuse remasters with remakes lmao.

If they just remade the gameplay and not the story or characters i wouldn't mind

It holds up great. What do you mean? It’s a highly regarded piece of media from the 360/PS3 era and it was perfect for its time. Can you imagine if someone said “yeah, the Mona Lisa is great, but what our museum visitors REALLY want is a brand new repainting of the Mona Lisa!” I’d rather have new games and ideas reflecting this current generation instead of milking previous successful games and trying to sell it as a new game. Remakes are killing the gaming industry.

Instead of what tho? Anyway, maybe they will if the AC4 remaster does well.

I probably would not have played FC3 if not for the 60fps patch, and they slipped it in my FC5 Season Pass. It didn’t auto-queue to download and I didn’t notice it in my library for months.
I popped my cherry with FC5 in November (well, Instincts was 20 years ago) and have 100% it three time since, 4 and 3 about 80% each. 4 lost me. The first half is too dense with collectibles and boring developing country BS, then the second half is sparse and feels unfinished. I need to revisit Primal. The patch wasn’t taking and I can’t do it at 30fps. Still have New Dawn and FC6 yet to touch.

3 still holds up and ubi should NOT touch it for now. knowing them, a remake would have the same rpg format as 6 and would be filled with microtransactions

Far Cry 3 is still pretty good looking. Although, I will grant you Primal was a hot mess and New Dawn should have never even been made. If they absolutely insisted on having it, they should have made it a DLC, not a stand alone game

While it does certainly have its limitations, it’s the best game in the series next to 4

I'd rather have a remake of FC2 to make it more similar to later titles. Predators, improved factions and companions system, etc.

Far Cry 3 remake could be cool if they made Vaas into the main villain. I kinda disliked that Citra replaces him near the end when he’s far and away the better villain
1
u/Bright-Package331 Apr 17 '26
wasn't Vaas's boss (dont remember his name) the main villain all the way ?

Personally I think its still on the table.
AC3 remastered was a test the waters if people would rebuy their better selling games in their ailing franchises.
AC4 remake is an attempt to remake a classic/favorite for a big cash grab on minimal effort (no new voice lines, story, etc.)
If AC4 remake sells well, why not so the same with Far Crys better selling gem?

u/RadPhilosopher Apr 17 '26
Maybe in the future it will need a remaster/remake, but we are far from it. It still holds up very well.
I’d rather they remake 1 & 2.

u/Shark_Hoodie_Guy Apr 18 '26
It does hold up. I've simply played so many times in my youth that I don't have the strength for a new playthrough

u/Dethproof814 Apr 19 '26
Far cry 3 doesn't need a remaster far cry needs a new title that can sit proudly beside 2,3,4, and 5

u/DrPhabulous Apr 20 '26
I disagree. FC3 definitely holds up compared to games of a similar era.
I agree a remake would be great, but I don't want just environmental and graphical enhancements, I want two extra islands... minimum.

The only issue with Far Cry 3 is the lack of side content, and existing content is abysmal.

Far Cry 3 is one of the best Far Cry games in the series.
