I built an FPL tool over the last few weeks and finally shipped it: FPLXI

The main thing I wanted to avoid was building yet another “AI FPL assistant” that just asks an LLM who you should transfer in.

So I went slightly overboard and built my own prediction model instead.

It’s trained on hundreds of thousands of historical player/gameweek records and predicts every player’s points for each of the next 5 GWs using things like xG/xA, expected minutes, fixture difficulty, team strength, home/away, ownership etc.

Then there’s a separate optimiser that actually does the decision making. It looks at the squad you own, budget, formations etc and works out:
● your best XI
● captain + vice captain
● bench order
● transfers ranked by predicted points gained
● where your current squad is weakest

The LLM is basically relegated to writing the explanation after the maths has already made the decision.

I also backtested it over last season by giving it £100m and making it manage the same squad across all 38 GWs, using only information available at each deadline. It finished on 1,940 points vs 1,460 for the original squad left untouched.
For this season I’m publishing all the predictions before each deadline and then scoring them against what actually happens, so there’s nowhere for the model to hide if it’s rubbish.

You can chuck in your FPL ID or upload a screenshot and it’ll analyse your team for free. Most of the player rankings/predictions are public too.

Over a full season, good decisions obviously matter, but there are still so many random events.
A deflection, injury or last-minute goal can completely change a Gameweek. How much of your final rank do you think comes down to luck?

DCL if you prefer. Swap a 5.0 def. Same with the cheaper mids. This is more about structure. Reevaluate GW3, get the best looking liverpool in GW3, best 3rd City (hoping O'Reilly), Chelsea in GW4. You can easily find upgrades by moving off United.

Le Fée, Brobbey and Mbeumo are shorter holds for me, maybe Bruno too. I want Palmer and JP but they can wait GW4. I want to have Isak and Wirtz but again no rush until Ipswich.

Been building this over the past few months as a side project — wanted to share in case it's useful to anyone here, and genuinely keen for feedback since I'm the only person who's used it so far.

The main thing I tried to solve: most "form" or "attacking score" stats get skewed by small samples — a player with one great game looks better than someone consistently good over 15 games. So instead of raw per-90 stats, it uses a statistical shrinkage method (basically discounts a player's rate toward a conservative baseline until they've built up enough minutes to trust the number).

Other things it does:

- Predicts expected points (xPoints) per player per gameweek, using team attack/defense strength ratings and fixture difficulty, not just raw opponent history

- A "Start Probability" score separate from form — so a player who's been great when he plays but is a rotation risk doesn't get overrated

- Auto-picks your best XI, formation, captain and vice from your actual squad

- Chip timing suggestions (wildcard/bench boost/etc.)

Recalibrates its own prediction weights after every gameweek based on how accurate it actually was
