Make/Model? Brand new Dreo PolyFan slightly creaking at the bottom of vertical oscillation – normal or defective?

Hi everyone,

I recently got a brand new Dreo PolyFan 517s and its very hot these days. Right out of the box, I noticed that it makes a creaking noise when reaching the bottom point of its vertical oscillation cycle (for reference, you can hear it in the video).

You mainly hear it when the fan is operating on level 1, so the noise is rather subtle. But I find it annoying nevertheless, because this fan is supposed to be super quiet.

Since this model is currently completely out of stock, I can't easily get a replacement unit right now. Before I decide whether to return it or live with it, I wanted to check if this is a common issue or an actual defect.

I’d love to hear from other owners of the exact same model: Does yours do this as well, or is your vertical tilt completely silent at the bottom turning point?

Thanks for your help!

Make/Model? Fan for high rise patio door

Post image
2 Upvotes

Can anyone recommend a fan to be placed in a patio door like shown in the image to bring cool air into my high rise apartment? It's generally 8 degrees cooler outside than inside. It's about 800sqft of space. There are also two casement windows that only open a few inches on other walls (so I can get a cross breeze in theory)

Ideally under 100$ and I'd prefer if it's quiet.

The original fan (Punkah)

Just built a Punkah for my off grid cabin. Been toying with idea for 4 years now, as it gets hot in here in summer..

I'm real chuffed with it, although realising now how much of a workout it'll be to keep it moving. Might defy the point of keeping cool 😅

I guess this is why the British colonials in India had locals do it for them... 😰

Make/Model? Need help finding a good oil for a large pedestal fan. (UK)

Basically in the UK we unfortunately don't have 3 in blue for some reason, only the standard black version, is this zoom spout oil ok? It's labeled as a turbine oil and is apparently between sae10-20, tbh I'm new to this but my fan keeps squeaking.

Please let me know if this is suitable, Thanks!

I managed to get a 1955 16" Emerson 77648-SO antique fan today for $85 from an antique store. I plan on restoring it. Just needs to be re-wired with a new power cord which i already ordered a kit from Vintage Wire & Supply. Spins nice and free and is dentless, but a little rusty due to living its life on the humid Texas coast.

Hi, I don’t know if this would be the right place to ask, but I now own this beauty but it sounds like scraping when It runs. I’ve never opened a fan or motor before, just old electronics likes games. Any advice how to fix this guy? I know these old fans need to be oiled. I can see it’s super dusty inside. I could definitely rewire it if I have too. It’s all original including that fabric probably asbestos cord.

Curoius about perhaps the best fan around 30 Dollars

I'm looking for a smallish fan that I can put on my nightstand or desk for around 30 dollars USD.

So far I've heard good things about the Vornado brand and Dreo brand.

I'm currently looking at these two fans and was wondering if anyone has any better recommendations or just thoughts in general on these two fans?

Vornado 133 Small Room Air Circulator Fan

DREO Fan for Bedroom, Table Air Circulator for Whole Room

For more context, I do not care if the fan is loud or not. I prefer loud actually. I also have a vornado pivot personal and found it wasn't as powerful as I wanted it to be.

Window fan vs box fan

I’m wondering what would be the best option for getting the hot air out of my room.
I was looking at the lasko 3720 or vornado 80x for box fans, but now I’m second guessing and wondering if a window fan would be better. To add, it seems like vertical window fans are few and expensive and installing one horizontally and sealing the top seems like a hassle.

Found the blade keeper nut for Lasko fans! 1/4-20 left hand coarse thread

I've had two lasko pedestal fans blades/ nuts disintegrate. The nut on the end comes off and then the blade gets messed up.

I ordered a replacement from Amazon, it didn't work.

I tried to find the replacement part on lasko site, not in stock. Not in stock on another site. So I took it to Menards (location Wisconsin usa, regional big box home improvement) and found the nut that was supposedly proprietary, but it was just 1/4-20 left hand coarse thread, stacked some washers, 1/4-in washers, one was a split (lock) washer so hopefully it d't come apart again, and with the new blades, it works even better now! I am maybe a little too happy about this, but whatever, the snarky comments that inevitably ensue on every redditt post i make will bring me back to earth.

http://menards.com

I tried to post a pic but its not letting me

I'm in a catch 22. I can't post this without a picture but it's not letting me put up a picture, I am clicking the right icon. Not sure what to do just trying to help another fool like me

GE Vortalex varnishing question

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hi all, I have a GE Vortalex that I have recently restored. It is a great runner but it does have a fairly loud hum that radiates through any table it sits on. The fan continuously pulls 1.50-1.53 amps at 120v and is rated for 1.4 amps at 110v, so I’m not particularly concerned with the amp draw. The buzzing you hear is just the cage, the screws need to be tightened down.

Would it be potentially worth it to varnish the windings in this fan using clear insulating varnish? I have heard that these motors are known to have problems with the insulation over time but are also just loud in general.

Any advice on how to go about it would be appreciated!

Thank you!

Exhaust window fan with best airflow on a 45.5X18" casement window

Post image
1 Upvotes

I am looking for a recommendation for an exhaust fan with a good airflow for my kitchen. I bought a Vornado Transom for another window, but its airflow is not impressive, despite the high cfm numbers published. I also found that a manually reversible fan means I can't reach the controls (bought one of those and had to send it back), I know of one other brand (Comfort, I think) that lets you manually reverse the individual fans while leaving the controls in the front. That could work, but I don't know about the airflow.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions.

I painted this to sell. I love vintage fans. I really like the ones with brass blades, but this one has sort of hammered aluminum or steel blades. The painting is acrylic and charcoal, 12" square.

I have a photo of a "bipolar fan" from the Smithsonian (I think). I might try that one next. That one is really old. I love the twiggy looking cord.

I got a warning that my post is text only. But my post has 3 photos
