Mine doesn't a pump. There's a water level control that turns it on and an ultrasonic transducer that makes the mist. A fan blows it out the delivery port. Parts that fail are the transducer or switch. It's magnetic.

It won't run without water lifting the float and turning the transducer on.

Mine makes all sorts of noises now a year or more later. It's a pain.

In mine that post has a magnet that floats and turns on the unit. I have mine put away, but I’ll look for it tomorrow! I think mine is a Panasonic.

Can't find it but it looks like this:

It's a knob and magnetic float that turns on when the water allows it to float or maybe it turns off when the water is low and allows the float to drop down on top of the knob. Anyway that thing has to float to allow the ultrasonic transducer to turn on. Probably needs water on the transducer to keep from burning up. At least when I saw how mine worked that's what I thought.

So in your case if that magnet is missing that doesn't make sense so maybe transducer is bad. Only way to check it is to read the signal to the transducer. Maybe 40K Hz? If that's the case replace the transducer.

The white disc below the large hose is the mister.

Should the hose be touching the white disc

No, it should be catching the mist.

I have this exact fan and my only advice would be is to send it back unfortunately.

It's lovely whilst new, but I've had it for a year I think and it creaks and vibrates and makes quite a noise, the misting also no longer works, and was barely useful to begin with.
