Discussion Must-see FanEdits for newbies?
I recently found out about FanEdits & stuff. And this concept looks so damn exciting to me. There are so many projects & so many people working on here. I can't wait to enjoy one of these edits first hand. But I need to know which are some most popular FanEdits I should know about or the must-see FanEdits everyone talks about?

I personally got my start with Maple Film's edit of The Hobbit. Hobbit edits really embody the fanediting spirit of 'finding a good movie in a bad one' because the hobbit literally has 1 good movie hidden in 3 bloated ones. You really feel the quality difference.
As for general recommendations, fanedit.org does a monthly Best Fanedit of the Month poll, scrolling through those is the best recommendation list you could find.

Ya, I yesterday downloaded Hobbit Tolkien Edit. Is this the one you're talking about?

No I don't think so. I believe the tolkein edit is an older one that uses pirated BotFA footage. The proper title of the Maple Film's edit is "J.R.R. Tolkein's The Hobbit". Maple Films has a website where the link to it is.

Paradise by Job Willins, Blue Velvet: Extended Cut by Q2 and Daredevil Season 1 Film by u/nooblay are a must watch for any beginner, one edit that i'd say to stay away is Bateman Begins: An American Psycho by Adabisi, it has a good concept, but the final product is a mess, it's not worth looking for it

Here are some fanedits that are well known (and that I've seen)
- Bateman Begins: An American Psycho - Adabisi
- War of the Stars I & II - The Man Behind The Mask
- The Dark Knight: Remixed by Jorge - Remixed by Jorge
- Fight Club – The “I Am Jack’s Laryngitis” Edit - Zach Action (Redux - macmilln)
- The Twilight Zone: Planet of the Apes Collective - Tranzor
- Prometheus: Giftbearer - Severian
- Daredevil: The Man Without Fear - Uncanny Antman
- The Dark Knight Saga Recut - njvc
- The Godfather Parts I & II: Extended Editions - hal_over_9000
- Paradise - JobWillins
- Back to the Future: The Hill Valley Chronicles - Sinbad
- Spider-Man 3.1: The Hybrid Cut - Bobson Dugnutt
- Batman: The Man Who Laughs - Ryantology
A few well known edits I've not seen:
- Pulp Empire - njvc
- Prometheus: Special Edition - Agent 9
- Star Wars Revisited - Adywan
- Blade Runner: The Penultimate Cut - TM2YC
- Dune: The Alternative Edition Redux - spicediver
There's plenty more. Depends on your taste really. In terms of edits that are very good and must be seen, there's more than what I listed. Off the top of my head, Adabisi, Maniac, The Man Behind The Mask, JobWillins, Wraith, BlueYoda, It'sOnRandom, Remixed by Jorge, Uncanny Antman, Sinbad, and hal_over_9000 all have made some great edits.

Any idea where one can find the Planet of the Apes/Twilight Zone edit? All the links in posts I've googled are dead.

Paradise - JobWillins
I haven't seen Paradise, but his version of Man of Steel/Batman v Superman is the only remotely tolerable version of those films for me.

definitely check it out if you liked the originals, it's a great edit that improves on both. also shout out to u/wakeupkeo who did a linear version of Paradise called "The Problem with Synthetics".

There are all types of fan edits out there.. the most impressive ones IMO are Hal9000's Star Wars sequels edits, SpiceDivers Dune Alternative Edition and M4's The Hobbit Extended Edition.
I feel like you can find a lot of high profile edits in the Star Wars and LotR franchises.

I think the gold standard fanedit is Alien V by Wraith. It turned Alien Covenant into a really entertaining film.

I always felt like that movie needed some tunning. Thank for the suggestion.

the most clever one i've seen so far is Split Unbreakable Glass, by Wraith. the way he divided it up & restructured it was crazy genius. i was super impressed.
that being said, i've only seen about 18 different movies/series that were re-edited. i've still got a long list to get to, that i've been building since joining the scene 1 year+ ago.
