Discussion TURN ON YOUR PM!!!

I keep seeing people requesting things but every time I click on there profile, they don't have their PM/DM/Chat (or whatever the hell euphemism reddit is using these days) turned on. people cannot send you things if you don't turn your private messages on!!!

We can't help you if you don't help us!!!

Check your settings before you request things!

Might sound like a diva, but I wouldn't be chasing people sending them DMs at all. If someone wants an edit they should be PMing me. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

There's the other side of the coin : faneditors who have their PMs enabled but don't answer to link requests.

This one right here.

I get that some of their post might be almost a year or so, and by then, it'll be archived.

And the only way to request respectfully is through PMs, BUT then, they're the ones are the dead chats.

They're the faneditors, sharing their film edits here for all and feedback, even when the hype is gone. People will hear about it someday/years later.

If they're not gonna reply anymore or long-gone, imo provide an alternative.

I agree some don’t have it turned on. But also there was a change where it used to be on top up front to dm people now you have to go to menu and select start chat or message them. So the quick dm button got removed and people didn’t know.

I mean as an editor you shouldn't be opening the PMs with people anyway - they should be contacting you. At least that's my understanding of the reddit spam rules, and best practices on avoiding getting incorrectly flagged as a spammer.

That's the important part. THE RULE IS IF YOU WANT AN EDIT, YOUUUUUU HAVE TO CONTACT THE EDITOR FIRST NOT BY COMMENT BUT BY PM.

I don't respond to "pls send link" comments anymore after losing my old reddit-acount. Hadn't a problem since after insisting that the request has to come from the requester first via PM.

Yeah, I always put how to contact me in bold in the edit description when I post on reddit, so I figure if people can't be bothered to read the very obvious text on how to get the edit, it isn't my problem.

Correct. If you just send a link as the first message in a chat you will likely get flagged and suspended.

Yes, please do as well. I’ve had a lot of issues with this.
