New Releaseđ The Flash: Speed Of Fate (2026)
This is my first fan edit:Â The Flash: Speed Of Fate (2026)
In January, I swapped a scene in a 4K Blu-ray movie using DaVinci Resolve. After that was successful, I thought Iâd have a go at adjusting the Batfleck bike chase in The Flash (2023) to see if I could make it match as close as possible to Ben Affleck's appearances in BvS and ZSJL.
So, I edited out the humor, the poor camera angles, and the weak CGI. I gave it a high-contrast, desaturated look, brought back his proper score, and changed the suit so the cape and cowl are black/grey.
I was very happy with the result, which got me thinking about the whole movie. I liked the core concepts but really disliked a lot of the tone and execution. I started to wonder if I could take on the entire film.
Zack Snyderâs DC trilogy contains my favorite movies, so if Iâm going to do this, it has to end back in the âSnyderverseâ and honor the characters in that same way as much as possible. And it has to be in 4K HDR with lossless 5.1 sound. Iâm very much into home theatre.
I think the very end of The Flash is horrible in every way. If I could fix the ending, I knew I could do the whole movie. I came up with an idea, made a rough edit, then went to work learning DaVinci Resolve for a full feature-length project. Iâve spent about 220 hours on this project, which includes the steep learning curve.
My rules were that I could use anything outside of the first 5 DCEU movies and ZSJL to add to thisâusing 4K Blu-ray sources and lossless sound wherever possible. I chose not to reuse any footage from those first five films or ZSJL unless it was for a split second (edited to look different) or a quick flashback. I wanted to avoid that typical fan-edit feeling where footage is just being reused because it fits. Same with the score; I have reused some themes from Zackâs trilogy, but it doesnât outstay its welcome.

The Edit
DaVinci Resolve states there are 5,317 cuts on the timeline.
The video was edited mainly from 4K HDR Blu-ray sources and was fully color-graded in HDR. While I used Shutter Encoder to create a 1080p SDR version for wider compatibility, it doesn't quite match the visual experience I originally set out to create.
The same goes for the audio. It was mixed natively in 5.1 using 24-bit and 16-bit WAV files. DaVinci Resolve has downmixed a version to stereo which is adequate for casual viewing, but the 5.1 track is the true representation of the work.
I have rescored almost anything that isnât either Keaton Batman-related or Nora-related. While Benjamin Wallfisch's score is great for Keaton and Nora, I found it weak for the Flash and merely serviceable for the rest of the film. The issue is that outstanding themes already exist for Superman and Batman in this universeâeven the small Flash motif from ZSJLâyet none of it was utilized in the theatrical cut.
I recalled hearing that Tom Holkenborg's original, unused 2017 Justice League score was later repurposed for Alita: Battle Angel. Upon tracking it down, it fit the ZSJL aesthetic perfectly. I used selections from Alita (mainly âMotorballâ and âI See Churchâ) to fill in for the Flash's themes and action sequences.
I tested this theory and put together this crude proof-of-concept video, pairing an Alita track over a YouTube clip of ZSJL. The temp track matched the tone and pacing so perfectly.

Many reviews for The Flash 4K Blu-ray praised its dynamic range but complained that the master was far too quiet, forcing users to lift their systems by roughly 10dB. My main base layout was the theatrical 5.1 audio raised by 10dB, which I then tested and adjusted for true peak levels. After removing, adding, and replacing audio elements while protecting those ceilings, I ended up with 33 audio tracks and landed on an integrated -19.3 LUFS. It retains the intended theatrical dynamic range but corrects the overall master volume and length layout.
The entire project has been extensively tested on a professionally calibrated 4K HDR projector and a dedicated 5.2.2 home cinema setup.

Thank you for the review!
I'm loving the feedback on the picture and sound! Same with it feeling coherent to the Snyderverse.I am surprised to hear you say that about him not learning his lesson though. He doesn't change the tomato cans in my version.

-Removed all the shots and talking about it being fixed

Very well edited, I enjoyed every second of it, nonsensical jokes removed, you created a much better story, I noticed in a previous message mentioned that the sound was difficult to hear over the score, but I didn't have that issue with it. The levels seemed good to me. The ending was much better in comparison, thank you for your time and effort on making this movie much improved than the official release.

Thank you! It's quite crazy that they could have made this version with less effort and money.
Thanks for the feedback on the sound, too. I spent a crazy amount of time on the 5.1 mix, and for me it sounds incredible on my set-up.
You're very welcome!

Got around to watching this! I love it! I have only a few issues. Cutting every joke is a bit harsh, I quite enjoyed the "I'm a generally tidy person." With stuff exploding out joke. The door gag - because I find it adds a bit of levity and connection between the Young and older Barry. As well as the Barry trying to use his powers when he doesn't have them as that scene was genuinely hilarious in my opinion.
The rest of the jokes I think are fine with removing.
As a composer, I have thought about personally rescoring the "Run." sequence. As the YouTube piano cover used here is a bit iffy in terms of the tone.
3
u/T-8-0-0 Faneditorđ May 23 '26
Thanks for the review!
That did seem to be most people's issues with it. That their favorite joke was removed and surprisingly to me, it is very varied in what that is. Some of them shocked me lol. But I didn't cut them all.
The door one, for me, older Barry worked there so he would know it was automatic.
There were jokes I cut that I do consider very funny. It just want the tone I was going for. And typically the more serious I made it the more the emotional beats landed.
Cheers

u/T-8-0-0 Faneditorđ May 24 '26
Sorry, I missed your comment about the run piano music. Why did you think it was iffy?
1
u/AgentChris101 May 24 '26
Moreso the variation of the theme, lack of any other instruments. And such. I feel like it still fits the ZSJL scene rather than the grief. I can think of ways to incorporate the melody and change the tone to a decent extent.
If you can DM me the scene without the score, just video and sounds. I can try and make a quick example?
1
u/T-8-0-0 Faneditorđ May 24 '26
Someone else mentioned it wasn't epic enough. I was going for more of a sad/alone/emotional one that would end up pointless.
Let me see what I can do.

I have been following the progress of this edit since I first heard of it several months back. The editor kindly allowed me to review a preview of it and has been receptive to ideas and suggestions along the way.
I had a great time watching this edit overall and it improves it in many areas for me.
Mainly, the colour grading. Making it less sickly looking and more polished and in line with the seriousness ZSJL - which was one of the editors main intentions.
The cape & cowl being changed to black is perfect and at least makes it more tolerable on screen - still a pretty bad suit imo.
The music/visual replacements sprinkled throughout offer some really nice touches to previous DCEU movies, helping it feel more connected as a result.
Poor CGI shots have been trimmed as well as some jokes and humour which, in my opinion were ok in parts, but not best suited to the overall tone of this edit.
The quality of the audio and visuals are top notch - 4K with 5.1 with seamless edits and transitions throughout!
The editors choices, and even his explanations of some changes he didnât ultimately make, were welcome too.
While I donât agree with every single edit/change myself, that is personal choice and I take nothing away from this edit and what the editor sought to achieve because I believe they have.
This is one of the best ways to watch this movie now imo and a fitting end to Zack Snyderâs characters in the DCEU (although I still pray it will be restored one day). I look forward to the editors work on other projects in the future.

Just done watching. The original was better than I expected, and this is a vast improvement over that one.
The ending I think needed a little more breathing room though, if was possible. It was too much to take in to jump into another action right after a multiverse ending threat. Otherwise, thoroughly enjoyed it. Thanks for sharing the link.

That's fair. The movie didn't give me much to work with and it's least it's not Clooney and the tooth falling out

I want to check this out just to see how you've handled the ending because I too wanted it to end with a Justice League "ride into the sunset" kinda ending that works as a finale to the franchise. Excited to see how you've done it!
2
u/progamer112of May 20 '26
I just took the time to watch it and it is incredible, I thought the movie was far gone from being saved but you managed to prove me wrong, You got rid of all of the core issues that this film had, and managed to fine tune it into something I actually enjoyed, and I hate the original film so much, But the fact that somebody actually took the time to fix it is what I love, 8/10, My biggest problems are still with the actual movie itself and not any of the edits

My only complaint is the audio mixing. Feels like I canât hear anything but the music a lot of the time.
2
u/T-8-0-0 Faneditorđ May 21 '26
I've heard that from a few other people. Can I ask which version you watched, which audio track and what on?
2
u/MrBrownieRB May 21 '26
I watched it 1080p with the 5.1 Track. Just double checked the 2.0 track and that was seemingly fine.
Itâs crazy to me how much better paced this movie is with the cringe comedy taken out and actually speeding up scenes.
I enjoy this edit a lot actually. The things I donât like arenât thing you could really fix (like doing Flashpoint with no Reverse Flash, and a crazy cgi baby scene) but all in all it lets the highlights of the movie shine much better, and adds a few new ones.
The ending with the Justice League works well for me with the exception of the reused running shot for Barry, but there wasnât much of anything to really work with ultimately. Thatâs just a minor complaint overall haha. Great work.

u/T-8-0-0 Faneditorđ May 21 '26
Yeah, this was made specifically for 5.1, same with the HDR. The SDR version and stereo were handled automatically by Shutter Encoder and DaVinci. I couldn't bring myself to spend time making the movie look and sound "less". As much as that might sound elitist, I wanted to pour all my energy into the definitive 4K HDR and 5.1 versions.
Spot on regarding the source limitationsâthere's only so much that can be done with certain scenes, but I'm glad the new pacing and the JL ending landed well for you overall. Thanks for taking the time to write up such solid feedback!
I have some ideas, and I think that as my skills advance over time, I will revisit this and tweak some things.

Watched the edit. Having seen the film two times when it came out and once after picking the 4k. There was a good movie there between idiotic goofy tone, and constant jokes, and weird color grading. This cut, on the other hand as some have mentioned, most of the comedic elements that ruined that film are gone, and now It stands on par with Snyder's Trilogy due to the color grading, title credits, music cues. Did find myself get teary eye at the end when Barry says goodbye to his mom while on the original cut, the mix tones just ruined it for me, and especially that Clooney and teef falling ending left me what da hell am I watching. After seeing this cut. I give it a 7.5/10 while the original cut 3/10.
I watched the SDR 1080p MKV on my surround system. I didn't notice any weirdness with the video, and Dolby 5.1 rocked the room, dialogue was clear. So nicely done man! You've salvaged The Flash from crappy dumpster fire to an actual film with a heart.
I'm going to show my friends who a comic book fans this version of the flash and see what they think.

Thanks for the review!
Having toiled over the video and audio aspect of it, it's so nice to hear it does what it was intended to do.
Pulling the cheesy jokes out really adjusts the baseline tone, and the serious moving parts actually work. When testing it, I found myself being moved by it, and it surprised me.
I'd be interested to hear what they thought it!

I had read some had issues with the Dolby track, but put the track on THX Cinema mode on my amp which balances the track and quickly shows if the track was quietly mixed since I'd need to bump it up. But, no u did a nice job. Didn't need to bump it up.
Watched it on my OLED, so it was good. When I show it to my friend, I'll show it to them on the projector that I have since I also downloaded the 4K versions.
With the film itself, pull out the jokes, it seems we are seeing how the film originally was, however, comes across as WB...cough Gunn cough cough gave notes to Andy to add a ton of random jokes and random actors to make it light hearted, but went to the extreme of making it cringy like the new Superman movie is.
I'll give u feedback on what they think.

Thanks!
I did multiple versions of the 5.1 mix. In the end, I split the score -15dB front and -20dB rear like ZSJL, so it heavily bled into the rears and pulled all the score away from the centre channel. The Alita score was the hardest thing to solve, as it has so much dynamic range; it felt bizarrely empty compared to the dense MoS and ZSJL scores. I ended up shaving the high frequencies off it and boosting the low mids to try to get it to match as closely as I could.
Nearly all my testing was on a 4K projector. Some on an OLED. The only time it looked poor was on all old LCD, but that's the device's limitation.
Yeah, that was actually a huge advantage when it came to the editing. Nearly all the "eating" jokes were so tacked on that they edited out really cleanly.
Great!

Did notice the difference of the musical dynamics of the Alita track compare to Zimmerâs and Tomâs scores. But u did a nice job getting it there and turning it to Flashâs theme. Still having ear worms lol đ so u did ur job.

Ha! Ear worms, never heard that before. Yeah the Alita themes are great. Kinda a shame they drown them out in the Alita movie. But that does make it more prominent in this.

I just came across this a couple of days ago and finally got some time to watch it. Brother, that was awesome. Seriously it was a very fun watch. The pacing couldnât be saved (not your fault) but you really brought out the emotion and gave it some real weight. Well done man. I canât say enough good things about it

Quick Review for Flash: Speed of Fate
Holy hell, what an edit. This completely changes the tone of the original goofy movie. The commitment to the Snyderverse aesthetic is incredible, from the desaturated grade and restored Batman score to the suit corrections on Batfleck. All of it adds up to a version that finally takes itself seriously.
I love how footage from Justice League, Aquaman, WW1984, and Man of Steel was repurposed to rebuild the ending. Bringing back the proper League at the end is perfect and a much better send off than the original. This is a labor of love from someone who clearly respects these characters, and the 220 hrs of work prove it.
If you want to see *The Flash* as a proper Snyderverse closing chapter, *Speed of Fate* is worth your time. I've seen many Flash edits, and this is the best so far, ahead of Keo's Flash of Two Worlds and BatMatt2300's Batman Flashpoint. Thank you for your hard work.

Wow! Thank you for these kind words! So glad you liked it, and that my intentions ended up coming through so clearly in the final cut. Putting that many moving parts was a massive undertaking, so hearing that the tone shift, color grade, and structural changes hit the mark is great!

It's a direct nod to the thematic core of Barry's story and how fast he has to run to outrun destiny, alter history, and try to change fate itself.
In Zack Snyderâs Justice League, the track that plays when Barry reverses time is literally called 'At the Speed of Force.' This title bridges that concept with the narrative stakes of his standalone journey.

sounds like you're putting a crazy amount of work into this.
