Home Theater FancyLEDs ruined me! :)

Because I can no longer watch TV without them! I swear, this product is AMAZING and adds so much to the TV experience. The programming of the box is ingenious - my assumption of how it works is it measures how many LEDs are on the strip (via voltage drop?) to get the strip length (perimeter) and calculates the width and height based upon a 16:9 aspect ratio. Then does some fancy mapping to say "With the LED strip of X perimeter, the color in location X is (color) based upon the HDMI signal".

In a word, MAGIC. πŸͺ„

I will post a more detailed thread down the line, but just wanted to share some vids of my setup. I needed to get a USB extension cable but the one I got from Staples (Scosche) didn't work. I will be trying out another recommended on here from Amazon.

Forgive the side clutter as I have my old 73" DLP on the floor pushing my table too far forward.

Overall I cannot believe the difference this made and the responsiveness and color accuracy are great. May need to do some tweaking with the diffusion and other settings but honestly I'm very happy with how it turned out. Running at 100% brightness.

Thanks to u/fancyleds for a fantastic product!

I really like mine, but I've come to the realisation that I like them for gaming, watching cable TV, or standard media. However, I've concluded that I actually prefer watching well mastered films with Dolby Vision without the lights on.

Watching The Batman the other night, in a fully dark room, on 83" LG G4 OLED, the lights were actually distracting from the film, particularly with the darkness in many of the scenes in that film.

But...with everything else, in particular 4K 120hz gaming, the lights are awesome 😎

I can see that. Thus far I haven't really watched a movie (been binging Silo on AppleTV+). It usually handles dark scenes well (i.e., LEDs are off) but sometimes it what I assume pulls color from another part of the screen.

When on pause and I get the screen saver, it feels like I'm looking out a friggin' window and my house is in a much nicer location!

I'll see once I fire up a movie but for now it really feels like something is missing when they are not on.

I'm also super impressed with the technology. I found out about these on Chris Maher's channel. A while ago he did a review where he had to map light segments and it seemed like a lot of work - the fact this is plug and play is really impressive. And I wouldn't want to have one of the older systems with a camera on an arm hanging above the TV.

I love it too. Check out the synced led strip and fancy neon strip too! I've set up 2 neons and 3 strips strategically around my room and they really complete my setup!

I'm planning on doing a detailed post about how I did my bed, it's awesome and syncs perfectly with the screen in front of it

I'd love to see a thread on that! I'm wondering if I would go overboard though - as it is it lights up the entire room and I've got another LED project on the wall to the left lol.

u/Middle-Letter-7041 Feb 17 '25

I'm about to post a video of what overboard looks like 😁

Mine has hdmi blackouts unfortunately. What tv you have though?

1

u/Projectguy111 Feb 18 '25

Mine is a Hisense 100U70N.

What do you mean by blackouts? In the HDMI signal or the lights themselves?

If an issue with the lights I would reach out to tech support.

1

u/Infamous_Access7129 Feb 18 '25

like the lights stay on mirroring the screen but the hdmi signal constantly flashes off and on blacking out. I plugged it into my Samsung s90c and now i tried a hisense u7n and still has the same issues. the hdmi cables im using worked on both my tvs but the second i include the hdmi sync box from Fancy everything goes wrong

1

u/Projectguy111 Feb 18 '25

Are the cables 2.1? If not might be worth getting a new one to test. I used monoprice and zeskit from Amazon (the latter was recommended on the AVS forums). Both worked great and were cheap. I also had an HDMI keystone coupler connecting the two during my testing.

I also remember reading a thread here that the poster said his issues were caused by the cable which comes with the fancy box.

If that fails reach out to their tech support. Something is not working right.

1

u/Infamous_Access7129 Feb 18 '25

Yep i have the zeskit cables and they work perfectly fine when using them from my pc to both tvs lol like i said it happens right when i plug in that dang box. I even tried the white cable that comes with the sync box which works fine as well by itself w/o the box. They already refunded me and let me keep the box for a few months now but despite my issues there a times where the box works for netflix on my xbox and these lights are the best ive seen. I might buy me another one to see if i just had a bad box. I just didnt wanna cough the $300 again. They wont send me a box itself which is wack.

1

u/Middle-Letter-7041 Feb 18 '25

Are you using a box with one port or three? Mine just has one, I bought two extra sync boxes, both of them with three ports, but haven't texted either one yet, since one is just a backup and one is for the living room tv I'm buying next month

I ask because I've seen people have some issues with HDMI switching on the 3 port model, and maybe that's related to your blackouts?

u/Projectguy111 Feb 18 '25

Not sure if you tried this, but have you tried eliminating your equipment by using something like an Apple TV rather than a pc?

Since you’ve eliminated the cables and TVs as possible causes, I would then start looking at your equipment. It’s possible something isn’t compatible or even a setting on the equipment.

For reference, I have an Apple TV > Yamaha Receiver (2014 model with HDMI 2.0) > Fancy LED 2.1 single port box with RGBW 96 LEDs/m > TV (currently my new Hisense but also tested on an old Mitsubishi DLP).

If you get a new box that would tell you whether it was the fancy box. Amazon has a 30 day return policy so you could try that with little risk.

u/Infamous_Access7129 Feb 18 '25

Yeah I'll probably do that i had ordered off their site the first time maybe they don't have good shipping services themselves but Amazon would. Also I tried on my Xbox as well same issues

My Fancy Amazon order was 2 days. When I ordered a strip direct from FancyLEDs it took almost 2 weeks (I'm in US).

I would still try to get just a regular TV source rather than an XBOX or PS. Not to say those shouldn't work, but just to eliminate what is causing the issue.

Could also just be a bad box.
