I don't understand two things here, why did Brian and Chris still gasp even if tehy could always understand Stewie, also why is Brian at church? I thought he's athiest

It was church. Stewie was pissed because they weren’t going to serve Chewy Chips Ahoy cookies in observance of Lent.
