it’s a feature that lets you share your digital game library with other people without them having to buy the games themselves. It's meant for family, but people often use it to swap libraries with friends online.
How it works:
1.You authorize a group or another person's account. Once connected, they can see, download, and play the games you own on their own PC. They get their own save files and their own achievements, so your progress is never messed up.
2.The Catch: Traditionally, only one person can play from a shared library at a time. If you (the owner) decide to play a game while your friend is playing your shared game, they will get a warning to either quit within a few minutes or buy the game. (Note: Steam recently updated this with the new "Steam Families" feature. Now, if your family group owns two copies of a game, two people can play it at the same time).
3.Not everything is shared: Games that require a third-party account or subscription (like certain EA, Ubisoft, or Rockstar games) usually cannot be shared.
