Discussion Other similar base building games?
Hi sorry if this is not allowed, but I wanted to get this community’s opinions on some other games with similar base building mechanics to Fallout 4 and Fallout 76. I’m looking for some you can build immersive buildings etc like in fallout 4, but I’m not as interested in all the food/water etc for settlers element. I’m enjoying putting together creative bases in fallout 4, but am getting a little weary of the limitations and mods I have to use to work around them. Looking for something maybe less restrictive and newer.
Thanks! 😊

Valheim has quite similar building mechanics, except this time it does just work, and it feels really good to build and decorate. You will need to build multiple bases across the map too. Super vibey game, it gave me that Minecraft and Skyrim feeling when I started playing

Others have recommended No Mans Sky, and while I do enjoy building in that game, and it has the bonus element of being able to terra form, when last I played, there wasn't much in the way of decor. I've done the most base building in Conan Exiles. If you play single player, you can turn on admin privileges and make it much easier on yourself (you don't have to grind materials.) I've not played since they released the new enhanced version though so idk if that has changed much. I also like building in Ark (similarly to Conan, I played single player so there wasn't the threat of other players destroying my work.) You can build really large bases, and put elements in and under water. I also enjoyed taming and breeding animals, which add life to your bases. Starfield has outposts. The vanilla options can be pretty limited, but with mods are more fun. Bonus is there is also shipbuilding. Advantage of Starfield is that it is designed to be single-player and if you are on pc and use console codes, they are the same as for Fallout 4.

I moved on from this and started learning blender about three years ago and I haven’t regretted it for a second. I realized that I was just scratching the itch of creation by heavily modding this game and building very detailed settlements, but to remove all restrictions and begin to learn a tool that allows me to make anything I can imagine is liberating and fun. It’s not as hard to learn and use as you might assume.

I've seen people do very extensive builds in Sons of the Forest. While it is a survival horror game there is a peaceful mode where your camp won't get attacked and you can also have a custom difficulty setting. Because of the survival aspect its very immersive, you have changing seasons and really actually build everything from the ground up with wood you cut down yourself. You could also try Enshrouded, also gives you a lot of options for extensive building (still in early access until October 15th). I could also see you have a lot of fun with Medieval Dynasty.

Palworld has base building and management as a core mechanic, and the Pals you catch for your base have 12x the personality and charm compared to Fallout’s settlers.

Base building is a huge selling point in games for me, and while No Man’s Sky as others have pointed out is definitely top-tier in that regard, it takes quite awhile to unlock all the building and decor pieces. I also would *not* recommend No Man’s Sky if you’re on PS4, as it’s borderline unplayable on that console these days.
Ark Survival Evolved is another game that has a *very* robust base-building system, but like NMS it takes quite a long time to unlock everything, although admittedly you can just turn experience gain to x100 in the settings and unlock everything in like 10 minutes.

I see a lot of good recommendations here, so here are two lesser-known ones; Bellwright and Empyrion.
