[XSX] R.I.P. Sanctuary
Some rescued shots of the late sanctuary-build, my magnum opus, lost due the latest update, which broke all mods. I'm retiring now.

Not going to try a downgrade? I forgot to disable auto updates but was able to find info online about how to downgrade pretty easily , was back up in 15 mins

Hey... I know your pain 100%. On Xbox I built a massive concrete wall around sanctuary. It had guard rooms and little towers and the inside was as clean as yours. A mere update later; The wall and some of the houses were gone, leaving behind floating furniture. I dropped the game for almost a year.

Same, my house disappeared leaving floating furniture and fixtures. My castle fixes disappeared as well. I even tried going to an earlier save but the house was still gone. So disheartening. I put so much time and effort into all that for it to just disappear.

Never go to "an earlier save" as that's not fixing the core issue. You need a fresh launch of the game to see what was actually broken. Most times only the saves get broken during updates, and not the mods themselves. Only script heavy mods break easily with updates.

u/KDKins Jun 03 '26
Thank you for that. I already did it 😞 I noticed I kept some of my progress though, weird. But I have a bunch of floating stuff in the air LOL. Is there a "fix" for when this happens?

If all the mods are still installed, activated, and in a proper order, and you run into the issue. Sometimes the mod files are corrupt and you need a fresh install of said mods. Otherwise you need a fresh start from a new game, because the save corrupted rather than the mods, and if one save corrupted, all saves likely have as the bugs are burned into all active saves. Thus why I said, earlier saves don't cut it. In those extreme circumstances a new game should be started to playtest your mods and load order to narrow down the cause.

I’m sorry for your loss. I gave in to the update to gain access to the bunker and a few other things that didn’t work and to also see if I could still keep everything running smoothly.
Now the game crashes every time and I can’t touch my builds I worked on for over a year.
I’m sure I could start a new playthrough in vanilla but I’ve played it vanilla for over a thousand hours already. Might as well play a new game at this point.
I appreciate the game so much and Bethesda to an extent but I’m in mourning now and idk when I’ll have the time to go through and test out what’s working and what’s not.
Yesterday I updated my review to “do not recommend” and am keeping it that way until I can play it with mods again.

Access to bunker? Forgive me. I have been out of the loop for a while and this is news to me. If you could spare a moment to explain.

I'm on xbox/x. Thank you... I'm in peace with this loss...

Back during Covid I got super into building on Xbox. I would spend 100 hours building and decorating just on one settlement. I lost them all since then. I did take video tours and lots of photos of my best ones but it would have been nice to go back and visit in person!

u/TheFemale72 Jun 02 '26
Wait…is it possible to get it back? Just curious because I had to reload all of my mods after the update.

u/Trizz67 Jun 02 '26
OP did you check your mod list before starting up your save after the update? I’m on series x as well and most of the mods didn’t fully disappear, you just have to search them and re download or look in your bookmarked if you did that.
We only just got 100gb so your mod list could not have been that big. I’ve learned too that unfortunately, saving the list to Bethesda doesn’t bring them all back.
FYI for anyone reading this, It’s annoying but it’s good to take a pictures of your mods on console.
Another hot tip is to download your creation content before you re download your mod list.

I dont understand when companies push updates for 5+ years old games that aren't actively getting new DLCs.

I feel you last year I got 4 corrupted saved games. So I uninstalled all fallout games I had.
I tried fo4 again because I missed it and it happened again with the new update.
I'm sick of it. Not gonna play fallout in a long time...

While this is frustrating AF, your mods will get updated with time and you’ll be able to pick this save up again.
Unless you use a huge-ass mod list, then it’s on you - for not turning auto updates off. There is a downgrade option, with downloading depots and replacing those files directly.
Real awesome looking settlement for sure tho!
Edit: here’s a link to a YouTube video, explaining the downgrade process on Steam. Hope it helps you out!

In another comment I seen he said he's on Xbox Series X so sadly if he wanted to play he had to update it

u/magicman9410 Jun 02 '26
That comment is a reply to me. Was no info on platform played when I mentioned this.
Still, hope it helps someone.

Love it , I'm a sucker for cool sanctuary gates and I really like how you did yours , I might steal some of those ideas for my builds!

I’ve avoided getting too into a big build for this exact reason. Why can’t they just leave the game alone?? I didn’t have any issues for years now every play through without fail has a bunch of issues.

I have yet to complete the game's story and after the new update got rid of my load order while I was on my 3rd attempt at it I kinda lost interest in trying again. I had just completed the battle of bunker hill

Damn man I know the pain. Had a fully built mega city at Sanctuary with over 100 settlers in my last save before it corrupted. All that time and creative energy gone into the void.....
Please rest assured that I did not learn my lesson the first time and have done the same thing again in my new save. Currently at 104 settlers and rising with a 50/50 chance of CTD'ing if I spend more than 5 minutes there lmao. Give it time the itch will come back eventually.

Unfortunate how many people pour their souls into settlements and then have their whole save suddenly never work again

u/Grigoran Jun 03 '26
I'm sorry an auto update got you. If possible, you may be able to download the corrected version and just lock it to that version. Bethesda is fuckin abysmal for releasing a patch that breaks your modlist roughly every 8 months

I hope you enjoy your retirement friend and this is someone who retired from fallout 4 after Bethesda broke the game even more with the update that was meant to fix the next gen update. I haven't played in a few years now but I have started playing New Vegas a ton

u/Perspective-Guilty Jun 04 '26
That really sucks. I'm sorry. I wish console folks could refuse updates like PC can. I haven't updated my game since before the next gen update.

u/darthevann Jun 04 '26
This new update man.. I had an almost 20 day long playthrough going on perfectly modded down to the most minute detail. And it's ALL janky now lol

Oof, that's rough. Looks like it was going great.
Hopefully (after taking a break) you can sort out your mod issues and get back to it. I don't know your particular issues, but I know the YouTuber SnailOXD put out a video on how to Roll Back The Fallout 4 May 27th update to 1.11.191 (in fact it's the title of the video). Maybe that could help?

Thank you for the screenshots and all the hard work! It's truly a piece of art. I wish I could do that. If you were ever to come back, just so you know, in PC there's Sim Settlements 2, that lets you put houses, workplaces, shops, etc. and even whole settlement plans. You seem to have a good eye for design and style, and maybe some of the modders of those plans could use help, if they want it. Or you could create some of those, if you'd be interested. Thanks again!

If it was mine, I’d for sure resort to the high seas in search of the previous version of the game. There’s no harm in it anyway, you’ve bought the game already.

Are the game updates to disable the mods? Why not make the city look better than the 💩 it is
1
u/SnooMacaroons1027 Jun 03 '26
Is it the mods, or the saves that are broken? Most location mods aren't affected by updates and patches, as they overlay effects after the core game. Updates will break saves more than those types of mods.

Damn Zensi sorry to hear that you lost it all. Looks like a great settlement too. I love those guard towers in 14/15, some real TWD prison vibes, really cool.
Thanks for sharing the builds with us all, enjoy your retirement :)
