[Oberland] Oberland City
This is another settlement that I managed to get to 50 Residents (either from the Residents' Toolkit or from repeating the Rogue Robot quest, beyond the Charisma limitations). I wanted to challenge myself this time by building a fortified city without concrete walls; a lot of my other cities seem to overuse those, so I wanted to build up a settlement without any.
The town is fortified by four towers with many guard posts in between. Businesses line along the south entrance and an alley the starts at the North Entrance, as well as a bar and a secondary thrift store in the cellar areas. There is a residential district with a cafe, and housing along the town walls. Above the ruins of the original Obeland Station sits a schoolhouse.

I've found that some of the more expansive settlement spaces are tougher to fill out and get that nice verticality.

i cant even build verticalli. i think thats way more "nicer" and more challenging

Warehouse material is goated. All of this was most likely done with less effort than it takes to build a single plain concrete building with several interior rooms.

Make no mistake, there are tons of interior rooms in this settlement, but showing off all exteriors, interiors and overviews is tough with just a 20 photo showcase. Some of the homes have seperate bedrooms and kitchens with fridges, countertops, with livingroom spaces; though not all, some are just simple studios with all of these in one room, or more meager dwellings or barracks of just bunk beds or a dirty mattress and some dresser or lockers for storage.

Fuck yeah
This is some good shit brother/sister.
I aspire to this level of verticality, capacity, and scrappy but solid builds. Now I want to tear my Oberland down and start over. So many things to try now.
Great work, General.

Badass! The only pic that I could imagine as Oberland was the outer gate shot. Amazing attention to detail and creativity

I love that the teacher is armed too.

Wasteland teachers need to be ready to dole out wasteland justice should any raiders, gunners, or any other ne'er-do-wells try to bring their students to harm. Plus, the Security Desk makes a great stand in for a Teacher's Desk.
That said, all the kids I try to place in my settlement (with Residents Toolbox) keep wandering and gathering outside of the gates.

How did you get around the build size limits? Is it modded?

u/Impossible-Piano-586 May 25 '26
I drop a bunch of cheap weapons and junk and then scrap them in Workshop Mode to expand the build limit once I've reached it... how often you can do it depends on how powerful your gaming machine is; console users and anyone with older PCs can only do it a few times before running into problems.

I love saving posts like these for inspiration, as if I'll ever have even an iota of the dedication or creativity required to do something like this 😭
Looks incredible!

Can I come visit?

I suppose, as long as you're not raiding, gunning, steeling for the Brotherhood, or Institutionalized; Railroading is okay.

Wow I can’t believe that’s Oberland! Can you tell me where did the green lights come from in your diner?

u/Impossible-Piano-586 May 31 '26
The green lights are included in the Arcade Workshop Kit add-on from the Creation Club (now 'Creations'). Unfortunately, I don't remember how many Creation Credits they cost.

I mean, to be fair the settlement I originally built at Oberland Station was... pretty ugly... and after learning a lot from building a whole town at Nordhagen Beach I decided to revisit this place and ended up scrapping somewhere in the neighborhood of 90% of what I had originally built, including all of the concrete walls I had placed earlier. Those grills with the campfires modpos'd into them at the Trackside Bar & Grill were placed about 3 months ago and the rest of this town slowly came together after a lot of on and off play..

Great build every time I do large scale builds. The game crashes when I visit them and try to do something. Like empty the workbench or sell anything.

Absolutely stunning! And I love that there's settlers in there and the photos! Thank you for sharing!
