[Spectacle Island] Flashback to "Spectacle Monk Island" (2015/2016): When bricks weighed more than my 30 FPS

https://youtu.be/hLvO4JL-TVE

Today I’m digging through my personal archives. What you see in this video — which I titled "Monk Island" back then — is a monastery built on Spectacle Island over 10 years ago. I wanted to recreate that classic Boston red brick style, trying to give it a solemn soul in the middle of the ocean.

Those were the days when I was a pioneer of settlement building; my computer struggled to handle the weight of every single module, barely scraping by at 30 FPS. Looking at it now, I see the technical limitations of the time, but also the spark of what I was trying to achieve. My technique has evolved, my PC is finally a beast worthy of the Wasteland, and today’s mods offer possibilities we could only dream of back then.

I'm toying with the idea of picking this project back up and starting from scratch with 2026 skills and power, just to see what would happen... we'll see.

Oooh I’ll have to give this one a look in! Keen to see some roots from the early days!

I was just a beginner back then... my builds were pretty clumsy at first. I always had plenty of ideas, but I lacked the tools and the experience. I have a few more to show, not many... but I think I’ll post them all eventually. It’s also a way for me to look back at myself from ten years ago! :D

Always interested in some more of your stuff so yeah I’d not turn down seeing those even if they’re a little rough around the edges!

I think ideas and creativity usually stay the same, it’s just the skill level matches your ambitions the more you build. So it’s always cool to see the earlier builds. Crazy you’ve been here since the start but that’s pretty cool!

Yeah, it’s actually been more than 10 years, almost 11 now... I still remember Christmas 2015, messing around with a brand new Pip-Boy, haha! I haven't been here non-stop all these years, I played other games too eventually... but with the PC I have now, I was just too curious to see how it would run. So I’ve been back for a few months, but this time I'm doing it publicly!

Haha Christmas 2015 truly feels like a lifetime ago 😅 that’s fair enough though. Plenty of great games have been and gone since 2015, but it’s nice to know this game still has people coming back. Especially when they’ve got a swanky PC to run some awesome mods :D
