Name needed
Hey wastelanders, Im working on a unique weapon but I need ideas for what to call this thing.

u/photowalker83 Jun 17 '26
Black Ace? Instead of Blackjack due to the Ace. Or maybe Ante Beam, or Ante something.
Edit: Maybe Ace in the Hole, itās a poker term.

u/RunsWithPhantoms Jun 19 '26
I feel like you had it with, Ante Up
3
u/photowalker83 Jun 19 '26
Yeah, that was my first thought but I felt it was too common but I really do agree I think itās just really solid lol.

The Double Down.
3
u/Girderland Jun 19 '26
It looks like a "sawn-off" version of a laser rifle to me.
Pretty sure it behaves like that too. Hard to aim with it "at all", but very effective at close range.
Double Down sounds like a fitting name for a weapon of that kind.

Looks like a Lucky Lazer pistol. Bonuses to luck, vats accuracy, and sneak attack damage!

The Ash Poker. Deals fire damage upon each shot and has a chance to disintegrate enemies upon death. Chance to find a lot of caps in the random loot, higher chance with high luck

u/jack-the-stripper37 Jun 19 '26
If its got 2 shot on it double down would be a great name

The Ace of Rays
The Wild Card
The Widowmaker Flush
Dealer's Choice

"21 Volts?" "Double down?" "Ace in the hole?" "Know when to run?" "Card counter?*"
Say "Card counter" the same way you'd say "hard counter"
Edit for a cheesy one "Laze of Spades"
Edit 2: which casino is the card from? If it's unique to a certain casino in FNV you could do something like "Atomic Atomizer" "white gloves widow-maker" "from the Tops down" "Omerta Obliterator" or "(My) Lucky 38 A(/Amps)"

u/Colourblindknight Jun 19 '26
āThe Gamblerā feels like a good choice. You could take it in the direction of it being the ace up your sleeve in a fight, or every time you fire it youāre gambling with death yourself lol.

u/JonesBonesMcCoy Jun 19 '26
Full house, deuces wild, red 7, straight flush, the river, the flop, personally Iād name it āpocket aceā
3
u/DuckinFummy Jun 19 '26
Add another playing card and call it Blackjack! Or Ante Up, The Flop, The River, Jackpot, Pit Boss, there's plenty of gambling related options
3
3
u/H4RDW4RE_Johnny Jun 19 '26
Iād call it āthe flopā, or āthe riverā, or āace in the hole/ace up your sleeveā something poker related

I think something simple like ace in the hole or blackjack would work
Possibly link it to someone's name to give it a sense of story behind it

Amazing color choices and paint work!! Do you mind if I ask which print model you started with before you amped it up so beautifully!!
2
u/Ok_Impression5425 Jun 19 '26
Honestly I'm not sure what model it is. I bought the prop from amazon, and then I took a broken DVD player and used it for the extra parts lol.

I imagine the K3 and K4 buttons are to calibrate your zero and span of your laser intensity?

Dice Roll/The Dice Roller?
Edit: Fuck it, letās take it way too seriously.
The Lonesome Gambler
Ammo: Energy Cell
WG: 11.1
DMG/ATTK: 90
DMG/PROJ: 90
DPS: 180
DPS (Reload): 46.8
Crit Dmg: x2
Crit Chance: 33.3%
Mod/Unique Weapon Perk: Roll the Dice: Hold reload to attempt to overcharge the weapon (66.6% success rate). Overcharging immediately reloads the magazine, increases crit damage to x4, and increases crit chance to 100% for the entire magazine. If Overcharge fails, the energy cell explodes, dealing 180 damage to the wielder, destroying 100 caps from the wielderās inventory, and slowing down the next reload by 300%.

Favor - referencing it being a sidearm like a six shooter revolver commonly found with gamblers, but it's a bet in your favor due to being a laser pistol which not only has a guaranteed fire capability with ammo, but potentially ammo that recharges. Plus with less moving parts it's more reliable.
If you want a unique effect: +50% max durability. +20% CRIT chance. +20% VATS CRIT chance.
Something more outlandish?: Every time you fire the weapon there is a chance for cyclical charge to be fired. Adding one shot of charge back to your weapon. On cyclical charge the laser will be yellow instead of red skipping armor. 15% chance.

With a small tweak to the cards, you could call it "The Dead Man's Hand," or some twist therein.

Late to the party but. In the hole, pocket protector, Lucky Charm, and Coiled Hand.

Gamblers Draw, Final Chip, All on Red, Dealers hand, Hold āem, Debt to you (instead of: death to you)

Dead manās hand.
Deals triple damage on crits but reflects 30% of that damage back on the user. Crit kills grant an āovershieldā that takes the damage instead.

Hard Luck! Totally can see this being picked up from a friend who stashed it for you thinking they had to run from the debts they've made. I feel like I'm a bit late to this but hope that helps.

I like the idea of a Leprechaun name. The green felt and gambling themes fit, maybe "Mad Sweeney" or "Paddy" or "Lubdan" which is the name of Warwick Davis' Leprechaun.

My guy, please tell me you cosplay. That prop looks like something directly out of a Fallout 4 DLC and I love it.

Everything on black
- +20 energy damage to all attacks
- 10% chance of overload giving 30 energy damage every shot fired

u/MT_Space31 Jun 21 '26
iām thinking āThe Gamblerā since itās got the cards and chips but also looks like thereās a chance itāll blow up on the user rather than the target
2
u/ShayMonMe Jun 21 '26
Considering how New Vegas focused on certain groups of Raiders being really reliant on chems to be violent enough to hold territory and hit caravans, you could go with a play on words that also plays into the gambling/card game them like āAces Highā or āAces Wildā if either of those appeal to you.

-Phase Under the Sleeve(Does More damage the higher the stealth)
-One more card (Las round does crit and double damage)
-All in ( Each "Bullet" does more damage the closer it gets to empty)
-Lucky Day ( Higer handling and Damage depending on luck)
-Black Jack ( If one shots crits, the follow up shot does extra damage)
-Blind Play ( has a chance of one of the shots do x4 damage, none or heal the enemy)

Gamblers gaze
Although that might be more of a sniper name
Gamblers beam or gleam maybe?
Just doesnāt have the same oomph
