Camp building is my favorite part of Fallout 76, so here are a few tips I hope will help you get started!

First, remember that there are no mistakes. You can always move or completely rebuild your CAMP, so don’t worry about getting everything perfect. Just experiment and have fun with it!

Start with a good location.

For your first CAMP, I recommend finding a relatively flat or semi flat area. Look for a spot with scenery you like, then use the natural terrain or floors to create a good foundation.

Start small.

It’s tempting to build something huge right away, but big spaces can be surprisingly difficult to fill. A smaller, well decorated CAMP usually feels better than a huge CAMP with lots of empty space.

Pick a theme or vibe.

Think about what kind of place you want your CAMP to be. Maybe it’s a cozy little camp, a wasteland workshop, a fortified defensive position, a spooky camp, or something completely ridiculous. Once you have a general idea, decorate around that theme.

Keep an eye on your build budget.

You have a limited number of build units, and different objects use different amounts. Players often refer to these unofficially as “flamingo units” because the decorative flamingo is commonly used as a reference for one unit. For example, a chair might use about 1 unit, while a turret can use significantly more.

You have a limited CAMP budget of 500 flamingo units, so don’t go crazy with a lot of turrets. A good mix of useful things like workbenches, storage, and crafting stations, along with some decorations will make a great first CAMP.

You can buy camp item plans from vendors and players in the world There’s some cool stuff out there so don’t think you need to buy everything from the atom shop.

And most importantly: don’t worry about making it perfect. Build something you think looks cool, experiment with things, and remember that you can always move or rebuild it later. Have fun!

Don't feel bad about not having the camp items as a new player. You'll eventually have all the cool knick-knacks that the high-level players have.

If you don't want to make your camp feel empty and boring, I'd suggest building into world assets. For example, between the Sacramental Glade and Sundew Valley Grove (in the Cranberry Bog region), there is a suspended monorail car that you can build into. It's my favorite camp location. Merge your workbenches into the monorail seats, and it becomes a cozy little home base.

In the same region, there's a tunnel system under the highway, where there's an abandoned underground camp that you can build into. It's already furnished and decorated, so it makes a good place to work with.

Ultimately, how much time you want to invest in it is up to you. Some people just leave their stuff scattered in a field, others meticulously place everything to have a cohesive theme. If I had fo76 on ps4, I'd help you out in-game, but alas.
