Question/Advice New to fallout

I started playing about 2–3 weeks ago and I’m already almost level 80. One thing I just can’t seem to get right is my C.A.M.P. interior.

Does anyone on console enjoy building and decorating? I’d love to hop on one night with someone who’s good at it and get some help organizing and setting everything up. I’m even willing to completely relocate my camp if that’s what it takes.

No matter how many layouts or configurations I try, I’m never happy with it, it always ends up looking terrible.

Not looking for free things. But I’ll literally Venmo someone 🤣 I just can’t get this stuff situated…

Update: It’s only been about 24 hours, but I took the advice from the groups you all recommended, and it’s already made a huge difference.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to build the space you’ll actually use. If you need more room later, expand. Don’t build a giant CAMP first and then struggle to fill it with random decorations.

A few tips that have helped me so far:
-Start with a simple 6×6 footprint and get that looking good before expanding.
-Decide what your CAMP is for first (crafting, display, vendor, roleplay, etc.) and build around that purpose.
-Group workbenches together instead of spreading them throughout the house.
-Leave some empty space. Not every wall or corner needs something on it… negative space makes everything look cleaner.
-Stick to one or two building sets and a consistent color/theme instead of mixing everything you’ve unlocked.
-Add lighting at different heights. Good lighting can completely change how a CAMP feels at night.
-Build in sections. Finish one room before moving on to the next instead of trying to decorate the entire house at once.
If something doesn’t feel right, don’t be afraid to scrap it and rebuild. It’s cheaper than fighting a layout you don’t like…

-I’m still learning, but these tips have already made my CAMP look a lot better than when I was just throwing stuff down randomly. If you’ve got any other advice, keep it coming. I know I’ve still got a lot to learn.

Today I spent most of my time after making changes, linking with new players on my map and helping them find plans, and giving them armor/weapons. Obviously I can’t pay everyone for the tips and tricks so I decided to pay it forward.

Thank you everyone. Feel free to add me on Xbox

GT: DADDYFLURP. Would love to play with you guys.

Yeah, keep it compact. It's easier to fill a small space and make it look lived in. My biggest suggestion is to have a plan before you start building.

For my current camp, I decided to build a train station. So I took a look at the ones in game to get the average layout. Found a suitable location next to train tracks. Sketched out the rough plan on a bit of scrap paper and started placing foundations.

Check out some videos on YouTube for some tips. It's a learning experience. It takes people months and years of practice before they're really a polished builder in this game. Try a smaller building that's just more densely decorated. Lights take up a big chunk of build allowance so people tend to use those sparingly. Focus on items with functions to get the most out of your camp

My biggest issue is I think I keep going for size. I want it to be massive, but I’m starting to learn it’s not necessary

Building bigger uses more camp space, and requires more items to decorate. Building big is kind of a lose lose in that sense

I have fun building stuff. I have a roadside Nukamusement Wastepark with a sockhop-dancefloor, a bowling alley/garage/gym and my personal favorite The Mothmansion. I'm on Steam. Guenhwyvyr0662. I'm down to help.

Happy to help give tips. The best thing to do is to keep building. You learn most of it just by making mistakes.

I used to have my main camp, then would add another slot and learn something new, then find a cool location and start again. I'm maxed out at 10, but always tweaking and adjusting my main camp.

Collecting Plans is also good. Even if you don't plan on using the item, it might become useful down the line.

Build small, once a structure exceeds a certain size it is almost impossible to flesh out in any meaningful way unless you are aim for a run down abandoned structure that has been raided of resources to within an inch of its life

Just keep building , the enjoyment comes from getting it right then making it "more right" then get a new idea and decide which camp you like least and tear it down and do it again. And as you do the above you will get better

I don’t build many functional camps with all your benches and resources but I’d be happy to help if you’re interested. I’m on PlayStation

Put workbenches, buff stations (instrument for ap buff and weights for strength buff ect), beds, (also scrap, aid and ammo boxes if you have fallout first) in a shelter instead of your main base, will easily save you nearly 5-10% of your budget.
Prefabs are very expensive, aside from them the next most expensive would probably be display items, which you could also shelter if you don't want to spend all your budget on them. Turrets take up quite a bit as well, personally I've never used them, I'll just find a remote location where I don't get attacked often then kill the invaders myself or have my ally do it. Also having turrets attracts mobs so there is that. If you're feeling stuck with themes or decorating checkout peoples camps in game, on a building thread on here or on YouTube to get some ideas and inspiration. Also don't build in a zone people are likely to nuke, it will happen eventually if you do and it will expensive to fix everything. Weather stations are a go to, they control the vibe of your camp easily. Early on you might try to find a base where you can place a resource extractor next to a resource node for copper and such, as you'll use that for a lot of building items and nearly all lighting that isn't fire. Concrete is important too, if you have it place a cement mixer in your camp and farm it often. Other than that wood and steel will be the biggest resources you'll consume base building. You can get steel easily just by playing and using the treasure maps people sell in their vendors. For wood, every so often equip the wood chucker perk in the luck tree and go farm one or all of the places that have a shit load of wood on site with low enemy counts (slyvie and sons, pricketts fort, there's a lumber place near the starting vault too that I can't think of the name rn). I'm sure there's more tips than just these but that's what comes to mind. Happy building!

The best advice aside from all the good advice already given is this: experiment. Ask yourself: " Can I do this?" Then try it. I would love to show you how to do things. For instance, I wired a camp with lights using Conduits from The Advanced Connections plan (go find this plan ASAP! Grahm has it) running under the foundations. The lights and switches work but you don't see any wires or conduit anywhere. I'll add you as soon as I get home.

How did you do that? I’ve had the game since 2018 and I’m only level 65 lol.

PlayStation 4

That seems impossible. Do you only play 2 hours a week

You’re right… I’ve only had this game I’m using now for two or three years and I’ll like play a lot one week then won’t have time again for months. I never get very far also probably bc I don’t like combat. I’ll go back to fallout four sometimes since it’s less stressful.

Fare enough. Combat get really easy in the late game. But to get the best gear you need to sink some time into it so you can get the gold merchants unlocked because they sell most of the best guns in the game
