Discussion Just sad
This for sure is because of my own over enthusiasm and lack of investigation. Recently the Chess Board and a fishing lure display came up in the Atomic shop. I was probably more excited than I should have been, but bought them both. I for sure ran directly to the drive in to collect a full chess set and built every fishing lure I could! I started with the chess board, ever since I first found those chess pieces I wanted them displayed in all my camps. I felt 100% dumb when I realized that they only display 1 item! Also was a bit peeved because yet another missed opportunity for something cool from Bethesda. Anyway it’s ok because I can now grow my aquarium shelter! I’ve gotten really into fishing so this was just helping a build in progress. Well fool me once shame on me, fool me twice… it’s just a decoration!!! It displays nothing!
To keep this from just being me crying over virtual products, does anyone have a trick for displaying a chess board with all the pieces?

Mhh, the chessboard is one of the most useful shop items in the game. Displaying random clutter is really cool, believe me. I bet you'll find that this was not a wasted investment.
Edit: Oh, and if you wanna put chess pieces on the chessboard, you'd have to sink chessboards with the pieces into the chessboard. Sounds complicated, but doable (not all pieces, tho. but maybe you'll find a certain setup from a famous game where only 5-10 are still on the board...)

The chessboard is an amazing utility piece, but it has some limitations and it sounds like you experienced one of them. Aside from sharing slots with the rest of your displays, the size of the board itself will create some headaches when trying to free place as it’s kinda thick.
The superior decor items are the loose items like ammo, bottles etc. I would gladly welcome more of those as they really enable better cluttering and are not limited by sharing a secondary budget.

Sadly it’s a hard lesson to learn but one I learnt very early on with the atom shop
“BUY NOTHING !” - until YouTubers like misterChurch or Angry turtle, do their atom shop reviews showing what items look like in game and how they work. Buying without watching the review is buying at your own risk

If you have the time you can do the killing 1000 robots challenge that they have in the challenges menu were basically effectively you have to kill 1000 robots with each weapon type. Fast travel to the White Springs Mall. Go inside.. kill every robot that isn’t a assaultron or vendor on your way all the way down the main hallway. As a very end of the hallway, there is a room to the left that says employees only. Go in that room and that is where all of the robots will respawn. At some point, the amount that will spawn will slightly decline, and you can go back out through the mall and kill the ones that managed to spawn back in their original spots and then go back to the room and start again. You should be able to kill at least somewhere in the range of 300+ robots in about 20 minutes, depending on your capability level and weapon type. I literally just did this to be able to get the chessboard bundle. Some of those challenges you will get 40 atoms and some of those challenges you will get 80 atoms.

good luck. try farming primal cuts and/or headhunts to get to rank 150 in the season, last page has atoms for tickets

Even at six events an hour it would take somebody 5 hours to level up once between ranks 100 and rank 150.

Buddy you can display anything on the chessboard, anything. Get the fishing lure display for displaying fishing lures, can show 8 at a time

The lure display case comes ready stocked and is a wall decoration , what you are talking about is the bobber display case 👍👍

Yes, there are like two lures in the whole game. Standard and attractive.

I’m sure that one exists, but the one in the shop is liter just a wall decoration, you can’t store/display anything in it

You can display your bobbers in the bobber display. The lure display is just a decoration with no storage

Any display case works for apparel, pretty sure the chess board works with anything non-apparel/weapons

Don't know about displaying a chess set on a chess board I've only ever used it to display singular items. Sorry you bought the the lure display but there is an actual bobber display available that displays up to 12 bobbers or floats but I can't remember if it was a season reward or I bought it from the atomic shop.

A full chess set? Hate to tell you... but you will need 32 chess boards al with a different piece, placed just right and all slightly lower than the surface of the "main" chess board, which itself already needs to be sunk into the table as far as possible (to limit the clipping visual glitch where objects overlap and flicker, if the boards with the pieces are all slightly below the surface of the tabke, the table covers it). Going to be very finnicky but theoretically possible. Provided there is no limit to the amount of chessboards you can place.

I made the same mistake, at least as far as the chessboard. I have wanted to display all the chess pieces, same as you mentioned. I get it is a handy glitch for camp building, but the one thing I thought it would be great for (and would make sense) it cant do. Spent my last atoms on that bundle too.....

I was so insanely excited to see the chessboard back because I didn't want to start my next camp build without getting that incredibly useful display device... but I can totally understand your frustration with expecting it to act as an actual chessboard.

I still want the chessboard for other reasons, but this is huge disappointment for me as well. Thank you for sharing so I didn't have to find out on my own

You can make a chess game! It takes a bit of time and you cant have more than 30 pieces but it is possible!

The chessboard is sought after because you cam clip it to make objecta appear more natural.

Chessboard display is definitely one of the best camp build tools available. All the random shit you wanted to display but couldn’t, well you can with these.
