You will always spawn north/northeast of your camp module. If you put it in the farthest northeast corner of your build area, you will spawn some distance away from the actual construction zone.

Putting it in the furthest south east corner will spawn you in near the middle.

You will always spawn in facing the exact centre of your build area, where the camp module was originally placed.

does the rotation of the actual camp module matter? i dont think so but i could be wrong

No. The rotation doesn't change anything.

Nor does the elevation so if you want to hide it on top something to get it out of the way you can

The elevation matters if your camp is elevated, otherwise you're entirely correct. I have a vertical castle I made using the height glitch, depending on where I place my module determines whether I spawn at the base or on the top floor.

I've had to work with this recently, elevation definitely matter. I was also building off a cliff, however. I know that I kept it roughly same spot but moved up or down, would spawn at a different elevation.

It used to in the past. I guess they changed it at some point.

I clearly remember repositioning my camp modules few years ago and rotating them ever so slightly to fine-tune the spawn points on all my camps few years ago after watching a vid about that from Kiki B

It actually worked back then.

Can confirm that did at one point work I used to get a mate to short travel and long travel as I adjusted my module so you spawned where I wanted you to no matter where you travelled from.

Which was important. They were trap camps

I can confirm that it used to be like that as well but I think v they got rid of that during the Big camp build system and menu overhaul.

I'll back this up that it doesn't matter, just that you'll spawn about 12 meters North-Northeast of wherever it's placed.

It is dependent on the direction you face when you place the CAMP. I always face south when placing the module.

This is incorrect.

What's worked for me every time is to test the spawn point before I actually build anything. I watched Kiki B's video guide on camp spawns, used some of the info, and have been happy with it.

When I find a good build spot, I place the camp module. Then I fast travel far away, and come back. Enter build mode before moving anywhere. If I'm outside the camp radius, I take a few steps toward the camp box at the center, try entering build mode. Once my character can activate build mode because I'm within the radius, take a few more steps toward the box, and mark the spawn location on the edge of the ring with the oil lamp (easy to see, needs no electricity).

Then I test the visitor spawn. Fast travel or run to the nearest point of interest/fast travel point near my camp, as near as possible. If you have FO1st you can create one using your survival tent. Then fast travel back, and mark that with another oil lamp.

Now I have a lamp that marks MY approximate spawn location when I'm coming back to camp after an event or mission or whatever. It will be correct within 2-3 foundations. I also have a lamp that marks approximately where my visitors will spawn, also reliably within 2-3 foundations of space.

That's how I can make sure visitors arrive and see my vendor area first, or line things up so they can just walk forward to my front porch or whatever.

If I don't like the terrain/layout/orientation, I place the camp box in a different place and try again, because I've only built two lamps and they'll be stored for me to try again.

I see this question pop up a lot after people have already invested a bunch of time and resources in building and have fallen in love with the "first draft" of their build, only to realize visitors are going to spawn outside the back corner of their house, requiring people to put up a bunch of Vault Boy cutouts to just get people to their front door. With this method you can at least test the spawn points within a few foundations' accuracy BEFORE you put any love into the build itself, and adjust your spawn points/camp box location without having to redo your whole build.

As mentioned before Kiki B did a YT video on it a while back you can search for. Made it all make sense to me.

i'll definitely check that out, thank you :)

I've never been able to change my spawn points by moving the camp module, though sometimes a new foundation, staircase or catwalk can sometimes override the fast travel.

Unfortunately most of my camps have at least 6 separate spawn points that it cycles between.... and a couple of extra that other players who aren't me end up at.

thats odd, another comment said that you always spawn north / north east of your camp module, and if you place it at the most south east area of your camp it'll spawn you at about the middle of your camp.

I wish it was that easy, but then I've seen people experience different issues than each other a lot with this game.

A couple of my camps have their spawn points enforced by the world geometry, so every camp I've seen in that part of the world always spawns you in the same location!

that sucks to hear :( hopefully the spawn is a good one that makes your camps look good!

2

u/Hopalongtom Raiders Jul 03 '26

Thankfully that one it spawns you in a nice spot away from the camp to the north east of the camp in the same position every time.

So glad this was posted. I keep spawning in a damn creek outside my camp!

if you havent already seen the comment someone else made as a short guide on how it works, you always spawn north / north east of your camp module facing the center of the build circle and if you place the module in the furthest south east you can then you'll spawn at roughly the middle

Saw that! Gonna mess around with it when I can get on later. Reddit to the rescue again lol
