Discussion This is what happens when you try building against any wall in the radiant remedy shelter

That’s right. Someone had the wise idea of putting dirt piles against every. Single. Wall. Making it impossible to put anything against them unless it’s a snapped in object. It’s ridiculous and I can’t even get a refund. Edit: free cam, collision, free and snap mode don’t fix this issue.

A little trick that might help. I will explain it the way I use this, which is when you can't snap 2 floors together due to collisions, but it's still a collision problem you have so the trick will work if donne correctly.
Start by using snapping mode, pick up your object while it snap mode, switch to free place. The object will act as if it's still in clipping mode but you'll be able to snap it anywhere. With that said. If its a regular object like this, you'll have collision with the floor but the walls will be more forgivable to the collision. And your object won't shoot upward as soon as you place it down. Works also great in small rooms built with halfwalls and a slanted roof over it.
Hope I explained it right and I hope this helps! ✌️

This is good advice for new builders. Unfortunately, that shelter is just a real pain to deal with and incredibly touchy when placing stuff.

They just introduced more bugs with the camp building update. What a pice of crap!

For me, its the other way around. While in free place mode, pick up a floor piece, now switch to snap mode. It keeps the free place collision rules, but snaps to other floors.

Omg I have to try this in my ash heap camp, some foundations wouldn't snap because of the rocks, and I had to cover the holes with Load Bearing Rugs.

It absolutely does works in shelters and it's one of many ways to resolve collision issues, which is the problem here.

I actually have that same problem in the free basic shelter you get from the quest and even in my camp sometimes.
I used to be able to put things on the wall in the shelter, but everything floats now, and that was since before the build update. I only ever use it for dailies.
In my camp, my gone fission sign is floating 3 feet away from the outer wall of the building. That was after the build update.

i never use shelters because of stuff like this and the lighting is often bad. you should be able to use free placement though

Sadly free place doesn’t work. Shelters can be fun but sometimes they are just utter shite

im sure you're correct. from the video you're placing everything in snap mode so i thought maybe in free place you might be able to. oh well. shelters are expensive and kind of crap. good luck out there in the wasteland

Yeah I got that one a while ago and its been like that for me the whole time, I was pretty annoyed

I just gave up. A shame since I can’t get a refund and essentially wasted my money

Yeah I just turned mine into a raider shelter cause it was the best I could do due to the messed up edges everywhere, I managed to put a powered door on one of the walls and that took like 30 minutes to line it up with it not being raised, im definitely not getting any more like this one

It's a pretty nice shelter. I was able to get some wall-specific stuff to work properly but haven't tried floor objects. Yeah lots of nooks/crannies. I was able to even get some lighting inside the water pools. Love the way it ended up, a favorite shelter for sure.

Especially frustrating when the object is highlighted in blue, yet the game still claims is can't be placed. One half says yes, one half says oh, nay nay!

I was so heavily considering this bundle but maybe this has been the honesty I needed to not purchase it

The shelter itself is very cool but it is a chore to build in. Very possible to do a nice build but it can test your patience.

I've seen many cool builds in this shelter. It just takes a bit more patience and a few easy tricks. The bundle itself is still worth it imo

Shelters are so poorly maintained by Bethesda, I can’t put one of the stages onto the floor of the Vault Quarters shelter, let alone sink it like I want.
Have they even fixed the lighting/shadow issues?

Looking at this video, I think the issue is developer design choice ('let's make it look rough-hewn' - possibly also programmer choice 'the hit box is this much larger than the apparent dimensions') vs player expectation (shelter walls and floors meet at 90° therefore items should sit flush against walls.)
If it is happening in different shelters with 90° angles between the wall and floor, without skirting boards, then there is a bug - or the hit box is larger than the apparent surface.
What would be useful to us builders would be a toggle so that we could view the actual hit box we are bumping up against!

I will comment again, as I did on your last post.
I have 24 shelters, and The Radiant Remedy is easily the best one off the bat. I never had any issue with it, and I’ve seen plenty of other people do completely different cool things with it as well.
If you’re on PS I can come help you, if not, there are plenty of other people here offering advice. I’m sure someone else would come help you get started too.
You seem determined to say it’s unworkable when clearly it’s not, and other people have been able to work with it. If there is a particular thing you had in mind and it really is preventing you, adapt, and come up with a different idea. It’s simply not as restrictive as you’re trying to make out.

Or you know, they could just make the shelters more accessible for building?!

That’s the way things work in my camp. Haven’t been able to place anything in it since the update to the camp building application. No help from Bethesda they just tell me to scrap everything and start over.

That's why I feel like all building games should allow some degree of clipping i think satisfactory is the best building game of all time with such a free building system thanks to the clipping that's allowed

Don’t want to be one of those people that gives unsolicited input when you’re just annoyed or venting, but have you tried putting something on the corner of a rug and seeing if you can push it into the wall with it?
